The Tourism and Major Events team is responsible for the coordination of activities relating to the attraction and support of major events to Bendigo. 

With international and national events hosted throughout the year in our diverse parks, heritage and contemporary buildings and open spaces, Bendigo has earned its reputation as a world class events capital of regional Victoria. 

Our beautiful tree-lined streets and impressive buildings create a picturesque backdrop to any event, while our convenient location in the heart of Victoria is accessible for many surrounding towns, all within an easy 90 minute drive from Melbourne’s CBD.

Bendigo Venues & Events

Capital Theatre Ulumbarra

Welcome to Bendigo Venues & Events - a business unit of the City of Greater Bendigo and responsible for the management of a suite of venues including Ulumbarra Theatre, The Capital Theatre, the Bendigo Town Hall, Dudley House and The Engine Room.

This Unit presents a broad range of community, state, national and international events including live theatre, dance, fine and contemporary music and other performing arts activities across a varied suite of venues.

BV&E’s venues have an equally busy commercial life through the hosting of weddings, conferences, seminars, celebrations, ceremonies, classes and community events and by offering professional theatres, fully supported ticketing and box office, first-class function facilities, exclusive catering, exhibition spaces and dedicated community access venues.

Early Years Events

Gain invaluable skills, experience & social connections by volunteering at City of Greater Bendigo’s early years events!

Two events are solely run by the City including;

  • Splash into Fun with Playgroup Victoria, celebrating Nation Playgroup Week, held in March each year. (Target audience under school age).

  • FunLoong Fun Day, celebrating National Children’s Week held in October each year. This is our major event attracting over 3,000 children & families to a fun, free day of activities & live entertainment. (Target audience 0-12 years)

     The successful completion of a Working With Children and Police check is mandatory for volunteering for Early Years Events at City of Greater Bendigo.
    (Both checks are free of charge in a voluntary capacity).

Intercultural Ambassador Program

Intercultural Ambassadors group

Intercultural Ambassador Program

 

Every two years the City recruits 10 Intercultural Ambassador volunteers who represent a diverse range of multicultural and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds in our community. The Ambassadors will participate in community events and projects, City advisory and reference groups and attend civic functions. They will also act as champions for their existing communities and gain valuable leadership and development opportunities.  Our Program is based on the successful City of Ballarat Multicultural Ambassadors Program. Funding for the Pilot Program has been provided by the Victorian Government.

WHO ARE WE?

YO is a team of young people aged between 12 and 24 who volunteer their time participating in various activities across Bendigo.

YO aim to;

  • Provide opportunities for young people to have their say.
  • Promote young people as valuable citizens who make a positive contribution to the community.
  • Provide innovative opportunities for young people to develop new skills.
  • Increase collaboration with education providers, industry and community to enhance employment opportunities.
  • Deliver inclusive and accessible events and programs for all the community.
  • Increase collaboration to strengthen partnerships, networks and advocacy on youth priority areas.
  • Create spaces that are inclusive, safe and welcoming for all members of the community.

YO Events

The FReeZA program is an innovative youth development program that provides opportunities for young Victorians aged 12-25 across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria to enjoy live band gigs, dance parties and other cultural, recreational and artistic events that are drug, alcohol and smoke-free in supervised and safe venues.

Ambedo aims to inspire it’s readers to make a positive impact on the community and the people around them. Our volunteers at Ambedo hope to raise awareness for local arts, music, events, business and most importantly, youth culture. Youth are our content and our inspiration.

Our core team has helped put together everything that you see between the pages of the magazine.

Our goal is to create something that the local youth can rely on as a portal into the community of the City of Greater Bendigo and everything that the area has to offer. We aim to be as honest and as real as we can with our content so that you, the reader, can feel a connection to the community.

The City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council

Current Youth Council Vacancies

The City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council is one year into its current two-year term. Several vacancies on the Youth Council have become available in 2024 due to the resignations of several Youth Councillors.

Expressions of Interest for casual vacancies on the City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council for 2024 are now open and will close on Monday 13 November 2023. The available positions on the Youth Council are for a period of 12 months.

 

Description of Youth Council

The City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council is an advisory and advocacy committee whose role is to represent the voice of young people who live, work and/or study in the City of Greater Bendigo. The Youth Council achieves this by:

  • Providing advice to the City of Greater Bendigo Council on plans, strategies, policies and projects so that they better align to the needs of young people;
  • Engaging with young people to identify their priorities; and
  • Advocating on issues that directly impact young people.

The Youth Council comprises of fifteen to eighteen young people. All Youth Councillors are volunteers.

 

Youth Council Eligibility

To be eligible to be a member of the City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council applicants must:

  • Be between the age of 14 and 24 years (Youth Councillors are required to resign when they turn 25).
  • Live, work and/or study anywhere in Greater Bendigo.
  • Hold a valid Working with Children Check (volunteer level) and Police Check if 18 years and older.

This includes young people from all backgrounds and experiences, living in all areas of Greater Bendigo, who are eager to develop leadership skills, advocate for young people and make a difference in the community.

 

Youth Council Application Process

Youth Council Membership is determined via an application process, this includes a City of Greater Bendigo Youth Council Expression of Interest application addressing selection criteria, an interview, and a referee check.

Applicants will be assessed on their responses to the selection criteria in their Expression of Interest and Interview.

It is a requirement that all volunteers 18 years or over with the City of Greater Bendigo have a valid and successful working with children check and police check
