Do you care about the environment and want to make a positive impact on your local community? Join the Redlands Coast Community Bushcare Program today!
With around 40 active Bushcare Groups, we offer a unique opportunity for passionate volunteers to work together in partnership with Redland City Council to improve local nature reserves. From planting native species and removing weeds and rubbish to montioring flora, fauna and water quality, our volunteers are making a real difference to the Redlands' natural environment,

By joining a Bushcare Group, you'll not only be giving back to the community but also building lifelong friendships, staying active and healthy in the great outdoors, learning new skills and developing your knowledge of plants and animals. With the support of a dedicated Bushcare Officer and access to equipment, material and training, you will have everything your needs to make a meaningful contribution to your local environment.

Parkcare and Trailcare
Trailcare & Parkcare
Protect your parks. Preserve your trails. Connect with community.
Do you love your local park, nature reserve, or trail network? Join the Trailcare & Parkcare volunteer program an initiative by Redland City Council that empowers locals to care for the environment, support biodiversity, and create safe, welcoming outdoor spaces for all. Whether you're a green thumb, trail runner, bushwalker, or just someone who enjoys giving back to nature, this program is for you!
In the words of Pat Janes, Vice President, RATS Cycling Club:
"TrailCare is about collaborative stewardship, it creates opportunities for trail users to work alongside land managers like our Council, building a shared sense of responsibility for our local parks and reserves. It strengthens the connection between people and place, fosters respect for the environment, and supports sustainable trails that reflect the community’s passion for the outdoors."
What is Trailcare & Parkcare?
Trailcare & Parkcare is a Redland City Council volunteer initiative that supports the care and maintenance of our parks, reserves, and trails. Volunteers work alongside Council to:
- Control weeds and plant native vegetation
- Maintain and repair and trails
- Remove litter and debris
- Reduce erosion and support ecosystem health
- Educate users and promote sustainable use of natural areas
Our focus areas include:
- Suburban parks
- Coastal parklands
- Urban Greenspaces
- Canal estates
- high-use trails in key conservation areas like Scribbly Gum, Bayview, and the Eastern Escarpment.

What’s involved?
Volunteers typically meet once a month for a few hours. Activities may include:
- Weed removal
- Native planting and mulching
- Trail maintenance and erosion control
- Raking and debris clearing
- User education and environmental monitoring
No experience is required, just a reasonable level of fitness and a willingness to help. All volunteers are covered by Council’s Volunteer Insurance Scheme.
