Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY)
Are you interested in supporting newly-arrived young people from a migrant or refugee background?
Due to its popularity, the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) is conducting early volunteer recruitment for Ucan2 Semester 1, 2018! We need need reliable and committed volunteers to attend weekly sessions for an 18-week Program starting February!
Join one of our Volunteer Teams across the Greater Melbourne Area!
Ucan2 recognises the need to provide additional support for young people (16-24 years) who are newly arrived to Australia and from a refugee or migrant background. Ucan2 is a partnership between AMES Australia, the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) and Foundation House. The CMY component is delivered with the support of committed and passionate volunteers who encourage and support young people through group activities.
What are the time commitments?
Ucan2 runs one day a week, for 16-18 weeks, at multiple sites across Melbourne. Volunteers attend their allocated site on the same day of the week - Tuesdays & Thursdays in Broadmeadows - for approximately 2.5 hours during allocated times between 12.15pm- 3.45pm.
*Please note: exact session times and site allocation cannot be confirmed until close to the start of the semester.
What do Ucan2 volunteers do?
Through a variety of group activities, Ucan2 Volunteers: share their work, study and life experiences in Australia; act as positive role models, help young people practice English; and, help foster young people’s confidence to make social connections and develop their skills.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who: can commit for a semester (16-18 weeks); are interested in building social connections and sharing their experiences; can provide support to young people; and interested in doing this in a culturally sensitive, welcoming, positive and non-judgemental manner.
Check out CMY's website for more info and apply today: www.cmy.net.au/ucan2
Please note: Ucan2 cannot provide student placements
Feel free to contact us with any questions or queries - we'd love to hear from you!

Uniting (Victoria & Tasmania) *
Uniting is a merger of 21 founding Uniting Care community services agencies operating in Victoria and Tasmania and Wesley Mission Victoria. Once the merger is completed in mid-2017, Uniting will be one of the largest community service providers within Victoria and Tasmania. Uniting represents a significant commitment by the Uniting Church to continue its ministry of compassion and care.
Our services are in the areas of aged care, disability, children youth and family, mental health community services, and chaplaincy and we get involved in social justice and advocacy issues that impact the people we serve.
As an organisation, we celebrate our diversity and welcome all people regardless of ethnicity, faith, age, disability, culture, language, gender identity or sexual orientation. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as Australia’s First Peoples and as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we work. We welcome lesbian, gay, trans, gender diverse and intersex (LGBTIQ) people at our services. We pledge to provide inclusive and non-discriminatory services.
Our purpose: To inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice.
Our values: We are imaginative, respectful, compassionate and bold.
