Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED

  • Must be willing to complete a volunteer/background application and attend Safe From Harm training prior to beginning position

  • Must pass criminal background check

  • Must have an ability and desire to be with children and youth

  • Flexibility required to work afternoons Monday through Friday, and possibly Saturday

  • Will act in a manner consistent with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army

  • College Degree or current enrollment in college  

     

 

Job Duties

  • Supervise children and youth during structured and unstructured activities, sports activities, field trips and snack times.

  • Will ensure the safety of children and youth and respond appropriately to emergency situations

  • Enable children and youth to experience success, providing opportunities for discussion on individual or group concerns, taking advantage of teachable moments

  • Will perform any additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the youth director and/or youth supervisor

  • Assist a child with school work

  •  Required to fill out evaluation forms

General Cleaning

There are many opportunities to clean and maintain our various locations. This is a very important area of need in that we have many different activities going on throughout the week.

Revolution

Revolution is our Wednesday Night Youth Program. Youth are picked up from area schools, given a snack and dinner. We also do singing, devotional, games and music lessons. All these require many adult volunteers to assist and mentor the youth.

The Light Teen Center

The Light is a wonderful place for teens in 7th-12th grades to come and hang out, make new friends, interact with caring adults and see Jesus reflected.

Touched Twice

Touched Twice is an annual ecumenical outreach event that helps individuals in our community in practical and spiritual ways. 

The event happens the second Saturday in August and requires many hands to make light work.

2021 Coats for Kids

Help us get ready for Coats for Kids Sorting and Distribution Center located at 5880 N 60 Street, Milwaukee, WI.

We are in need of Coat Sorting Volunteers who can sort and hang the cleaned coats prior to our Distribution Days.  Please check the scheduled dates, times and select the a date that works best for you.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, be able to stand on concrete floors and carry up to 10lbs. Please wear comfortable shoes.

Coat sorting takes place at our Distribution Center located at 5880 N. 60th Street. All groups must contact 414-302-4305 to schedule for tasks.

This is a rewarding experience, and we appreciate your support!

2021 Toy Shop Distribution Center

The Toy Shop Volunteer activities are shoppers, sorters, packers and stockers.

All activities take place at The Salvation Army's Distribution Center located at 5880 N 60th Street.

Ages 18 and older, groups are welcome!

During this crisis The Salvation Army continues to take COVID-19 measures by ensuring that we, provide masks, sanitizing stations along with maintaining social distancing.

We look forward to working with you and appreciate each volunteer's time and effort toward helping us to continue our efforts within the communities that we serve!

Christmas Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to set up and distribute toys to families during the month of December.

Community Service

Assist The Salvation Army of Oshkosh with various special events throughout the year.

Kitchen/Serving

Volunteers are needed in the Kitchen to assist with the Noon Hot Meal. The Salvation Army serves 100 people daily, Monday-Friday.

Volunteers assist with food prep, serving and clean-up. Volunteer hours are available between the hours of 8am and 1pm.

Food Pantry

The food pantry volunteers are needed to help participants select items from the food pantry shelves.  Volunteers will also need to write down the participants information along with stocking shelves, keeping the pantry clean and organized, packing food items and assisting participants.

Food Pantry is open TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS from 1PM-4PM and FRIDAYS 9AM-12PM

  • Must be able to stand for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
  • All volunteers will be required to take the Safe From Harm online training prior to volunteering. 

 

 

Meal Program

Currently the meal programs is on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings and is served as a to-go meal.  Volunteers are needed to help package the meals into to-go containers.  At 5pm the meals will be handed out threw the window for those in line.  

Volunteers are needed to assist with packing meals, distributing meals and kitchen clean up.

All volunteers will be required to take the Safe From Harm online training prior to volunteering.

Opportunities in this category are for volunteers who want to help with Christmas activities that include registering families for Christmas assistance, Toy Shop set-up, and distribution of Christmas gifts. Volunteers simply fill out a short application and choose from available shifts that fit into your schedule. Each shift has a limited number of people that can sign up.

 

Groups are urged and encouraged to sign up. One person can sign up the group. After signing up a group, please email Colleen.hilber@usc.salvationarmy.org, with the number of people in the group so that we can keep track of the number of people signed up.

 

Please, we ask that no one under the age of 16 helps as a volunteer in these activities without prior approval.  We ask this due to the sensitivity of the program and protecting the privacy of the families that need assistance.
