Emergency Disaster Service

Emergency Disaster Services provides a food and beverage service to emergency teams that respond to disasters in Dane County.  Local disasters include destructive storms, house fires and other community disasters that need police, firefighters and/or EMT services.  Shifts vary depending on the time of day emergencies occur, some carry on late into the evening and can require several hours of service.  

Volunteers interested in Emergency Disaster Services are required to attend training sessions before volunteer shifts are assigned.

The Salvation Army began offering assistance to disaster survivors after a major hurricane hit Galveston, TX in September 1900, destroying the coastal city and killing thousands of people.Since then, The Salvation Army has responded to numerous natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest situations and terrorist attacks.

Bridging The Gap-After School Mentoring Program

Bridging the Gap aims to bring a fun, safe, and caring atmosphere to local youth. BTG is a free school year program that meets three days a week. It offers a daily meal, opportunities for personal growth, life skills, homework assistance, and computer access. Post completion of the program gives graduates access to on-going support through our after-school youth services.

Volunteer mentors are needed at the Ishpeming location throughout the 2024-25 school year.

Kitchen/Serving

Volunteers are needed in the Kitchen to assist with the Noon Hot Meal. The Salvation Army serves 100 people daily, Monday-Friday.

Volunteers assist with food prep, serving and clean-up. Volunteer hours are available between the hours of 8am and 1pm.

Community Meal Program

The Community Meal happens every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 5pm-5:40pm. 

Volunteers are needed to help serve the meal. 

Volunteers assist with serving the meal and with helping in the kitchen.

The volunteer shift is from 4pm-6pm Tues, Thurs, & Saturdays or from 4:30-6:30pm.

All volunteers will be required to take the Safe From Harm online training prior to volunteering.

Food Pantry

The food pantry volunteers are needed to help participants select items from the food pantry shelves.  Volunteers will also need to write down the participants information along with stocking shelves, keeping the pantry clean and organized, packing food items and assisting participants.

Food Pantry is open TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS from 1PM-4PM and FRIDAYS 9AM-12PM

  • Must be able to stand for the entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
