Emergency Disaster Services provides a food and beverage service to emergency teams that respond to disasters in Dane County.  Local disasters include destructive storms, house fires and other community disasters that need police, firefighters and/or EMT services.  Shifts vary depending on the time of day emergencies occur, some carry on late into the evening and can require several hours of service.  

Volunteers interested in Emergency Disaster Services are required to attend training sessions before volunteer shifts are assigned.

The Social Services Office provides oversight in specific social service programs including Food Pantry, Bread Line, Rental, Transportation, and Utility Assistance as well as other programs offered by the Corps.

Jail and prison aftercare program

The Salvation Army began offering assistance to disaster survivors after a major hurricane hit Galveston, TX in September 1900, destroying the coastal city and killing thousands of people.Since then, The Salvation Army has responded to numerous natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest situations and terrorist attacks.

Assist with clients in the food pantry, pick up food at local establishments & stock shelves

There are many opportunities to clean and maintain our various locations. This is a very important area of need in that we have many different activities going on throughout the week.

We’re seeking a skilled and friendly Volunteer with Front Office Executive experience to join The Salvation Army.

You will be the first point of contact for our staff and visitors, you will play a critical role in creating a welcoming environment and providing excellent customer service.

• Answering phone calls and directing them to the appropriate staff member/department using our phone system.
• Handling incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
• Fluency in English, punctual and able to follow instructions.

The hours are Monday-Friday from 10 AM-2:30 PM.

The Food Pantry is located at The Salvation Army's Distribution Center, 5880 North 60th Street.

Volunteers will work in the following areas;

Shoppers and Stockers. Must be 18 or older, complete a background check and Safe from Harm training!

Volunteer needed to help with general maintenance of building including cleaning, vacuuming, emptying trash, and other duties as assigned.

Emergency Food Pantry hours that are open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 12 pm. Pantry workers assist in creating a pleasant environment for our pantry guests. Guests receive an emergency 3-5 day supply of food to help during times of need. 

Our Emergency Food Pantry services the zip codes of 53154, 53129, 53130, and 53132.

Assist The Salvation Army of Oshkosh with various special events throughout the year.

Volunteers are needed in the Kitchen to assist with the Noon Hot Meal. The Salvation Army serves 100 people daily, Monday-Friday.

Volunteers assist with food prep, serving and clean-up. Volunteer hours are available between the hours of 8am and 1pm.

The Salvation Army ministry provides endless opportunities for us to impact our world for God. All of us possess gifts, skills, and passions which prepare us to serve in our Corps and community. Local Officers should possess some ability for the duties they undertake, and seek continually to equip themselves for their role.

A Food Pantry Volunteer would typically assist with unloading food, stocking shelves, and helping clients with food distribution, ensuring a safe and efficient operation.

• Food Sorting and Packing:
  Volunteers would be involved in inspecting donated food for quality and expiration dates, sorting items into categories, and organizing the shelves for the food pantry distribution. 
• Distribution/Walking others through the food pantry
  During pantry hours, volunteers would assist clients in selecting food items and distributing them, potentially checking eligibility and ensuring accurate packing of food sacks or bags. 
• Unloading Food Rescue Truck:
  Volunteers could choose to participate in unloading food donations from delivery trucks and organizing the tables to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of goods during distribution. 
• Clean-up:
  Maintaining a clean and organized workspace is crucial, and volunteers would assist with tasks like breaking down cardboard boxes, emptying trash, and cleaning shelves. 

Physical Demands:
Some tasks, such as unloading and stocking, may require lifting and carrying items, so volunteers should be able to handle tasks that involve repetitive bending, reaching, and lifting up to 20-30 lbs.

A Janitorial Maintenance Volunteer assists with the general cleaning and maintenance of a facility, ensuring it's clean, hygienic, and presentable.

• This role includes tasks like cleaning restrooms, dusting surfaces, and maintaining common areas. 

Here's a more detailed breakdown of potential duties:

• Cleaning Tasks:
  Sweeping, Mopping, and Vacuuming: Maintaining the cleanliness of floors in various areas.
  Dusting and Wipe-Down Surfaces: Cleaning tables, chairs, countertops, and other surfaces.
  Restroom Maintenance: Cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms.
  Window Cleaning: Cleaning interior and exterior windows.
  Maintaining Common Areas: Keeping lobbies, hallways, and meeting rooms tidy. 
• Reporting Issues:
  Identifying and reporting any maintenance issues or needed repairs to supervisors. 
• Following Safety Procedures:
  Adhering to all safety rules and precautions when using cleaning supplies and equipment. 
• Additional Duties:
  Supporting Staff: Assisting other staff members with tasks as needed.
• Organizing and Stocking: Replenishing cleaning supplies and organizing storage areas.

Our Thrift Store supports our efforts in serving the community of Douglas County. Join us in helping the store succeed!

Specific tasks may include:

• Sorting Donations: Identifying and separating donated items as requested. 
  Merchandise Organization: Displaying and organizing items on shelves, racks, or tables in a visually appealing and accessible manner.
• Hanging Clothes: Sorting and hanging clothes as requested.
• Customer Service: Answering customer questions, assisting, and providing a positive shopping experience.
• Store Cleaning: Maintaining a clean and organized store environment.
• Other Tasks: Carrying in donations, bringing purchases to shoppers' cars, and other tasks as needed. 

A Youth Group Volunteer generally helps create a positive and engaging environment for young people, often involving leading discussions, planning activities, and mentoring youth. They may also assist with organizing events, retreats, or community outreach initiatives. 

The Community Meal happens every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 5pm-5:40pm. 

Volunteers are needed to help serve the meal. 

Volunteers assist with serving the meal and with helping in the kitchen.

The volunteer shift is from 4pm-6pm Tues, Thurs, & Saturdays.

All volunteers will be required to take the Safe From Harm online training prior to volunteering.

The food pantry volunteers are needed to help participants select items from the food pantry shelves.  Volunteers will also need to write down the participants information along with stocking shelves, keeping the pantry clean and organized, packing food items and assisting participants.

Food Pantry is open TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS from 1PM-4PM and FRIDAYS 9AM-12PM

• Must be able to stand for the entire shift.
• Must be able to lift 10 lbs.
• All volunteers will be required to take the Safe From Harm online training prior to volunteering.
