Volunteer Opportunities

Short Course Tutor / Activity Coordinator

PURPOSE

To share skills and knowledge with others by planning and delivering quality courses and activities which reflect the needs of individual adult learners and the broader community

LOCATION

Living & Learning Nillumbik Centres and various community based locations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare a course outline which identifies learner outcomes and includes information on required materials and/or equipment for learners and the learning environment
  • Facilitate the development of an interactive and healthy learning environment including the establishment of shared responsibility for learning and encourage participant enquiry
  • Monitor learner progress and provide appropriate feedback
  • Keep up to date class attendance records, and ensure parent sign in sheets are completed (for children's courses)
  • Continually evaluate your tutoring and the content of your classes, and how well the needs of your learners are met
  • Contribute to the development of the short course program and assist with promotional activities
  • Attend an annual review meeting
  • General administration duties
  • Enter required data into the volunteer management database, myvolunteerpage.com.au

REPORTS TO

Community Program Coordinator and/or Centre Coordinator

TIME COMMITMENT

As per agreed course/activity schedule

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Expertise or knowledge in the subject being taught
  • Ability to demonstrate or clearly communicate information, ideas or skills
  • Ability to facilitate engagement by all learners in the activity
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage time
  • Understand learning and how people learn
  • Enjoy interacting with people
  • Enthusiasm for life-long learning

SUPPORT

Organisational induction training will be provided. Specialist activity safety training is provided as required prior to course commencement. All Living & Learning Nillumbik volunteer supervisors provide an open door communication environment for volunteers encouraging any questions to be asked and concerns to be raised
