Volunteer Opportunities
Walking Group Convenor - Bunjil Reserve Panton Hill
PURPOSE:
To support the needs of the walking group and a positive and safe environment for all participants. To provide a communication and administrative link between the participants and Living & Learning Nillumbik (LLN).
LOCATION:
Bunjil Reserve in Panton Hill. Other locations only as advised.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attend walking group sessions as often as possible and organise for someone to attend when you are unable to.
Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the walking group, ensuring a positive and inclusive environment for all participants
Support the group to be responsible for:
- Scheduling meeting place locations and forwarding the schedule to LLN for distribution to participants.
- Reporting any incidents immediately to LLN
- Managing risks and safety requirements
- Other duties as agreed
Communicate LLN updates and information to members on request.
Ensure volunteer hours are logged in the My Volunteer Impact database.
Ensure all Living & Learning Nillumbik (LLN) policies and procedures are followed as required
Other duties on request of a Neighbourhood House Coordinator.
REPORTS TO:
Neighbourhood House Coordinator – Panton Hill
TIME COMMITMENT:
TBD - 2-6 hours per fortnight depending on the walking group
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Good communication and organization skills
Mediation and problem-solving skills
Punctuality and reliability
SUPPORT:
Organisational induction training and specific task training will be provided.
Position reviews will be conducted at least on an annual basis.
All LLN volunteer supervisors provide an open-door communication environment for volunteers encouraging any questions to be asked and concerns to be raised.
SECURITY/MEDICAL CHECKS AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A police check is required for this position
Working with Childrens Check may be required depending on the age of participants
Reference checks will be performed
Completion of the Child Safe Standards online training with Nillumbik Shire Council (NSC) is mandatory for all staff and volunteers, regardless of the nature of work
POLICIES:

Social Games Activity Coordinator
Activity coordinator – Social games
Volunteer position description
PURPOSE
To help provide a welcoming environment to support participants of the weekly social games activity.
LOCATION
Diamond Creek Neighbourhood House, 119 Cowin St, Diamond Creek
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- In collaboration with the Neighbourhood House Coordinator and other volunteers, support a range of games and activities to provide a social connection avenue for local residents.
- Assist participants in feeling comfortable and engaging easily with other participants and foster a relaxed and friendly environment.
- Keep up to date attendance records.
- Continually evaluate and adjust the program to meet the needs of participants.
- Assist with promotional activities
- Attend an annual review meeting
- General administration duties
- Enter required data into the volunteer management database in Better Impact
REPORTS TO
Neighbourhood House Coordinator
TIME COMMITMENT
2 hours per week during term time (Thursday afternoons)
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to demonstrate or clearly communicate information, ideas or skills
- Ability to facilitate engagement by all participants in the activity
- Enjoy interacting with people
- Enthusiasm for life-long learning
SUPPORT

Criminal Background Checks
If your role requires you to work with vulnerable members of the community, valuable Council assets or confidential information, the position has a requirement for a criminal background check. It is also a requirement that you advise Council if you are convicted of a criminal charge during the term of your volunteer position.
All Abilities Walking Group Coordinator
PURPOSE:
To coordinate a weekly walking group for participants with limited mobility requiring a short course, slow pace and regular rests.
Support the needs of the walking group ensuring a positive and safe environment for all participants.
To provide a communication and administrative link between the participants and Living & Learning Nillumbik (L&LN).
LOCATION:
Various walking tracks and footpaths in Diamond Creek, Eltham and Hurstbridge.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- We aim to have 2-3 volunteers supporting the walking group so you can share the commitment – please coordinate between the other volunteers to ensure there is always one volunteer leader present.
- Welcome new participants and help them to get settled, add them to the WhatsApp group if they permit.
- Carry a mobile phone on the walks and call for emergency assistance if required.
- Carry the first aid kit for participants use if needed
- Coordinate the walk locations
- Ensure a positive and inclusive environment for all participants
Support the group to be responsible for:

First aid training will be offered but not essential.
