Animal Husbandry Assistant
PURPOSE
Edendale is an environmental education centre for people of all ages which focuses on people Connecting to nature, community, place, culture; Lifelong environmental Learning; and Leading by example.
Edendale is a working farm and has health and safety requirements for staff and volunteers. Volunteers need to able to work safely and at times unsupervised (after initial training).
The Animal Husbandry Volunteer role is to assist in the health and welfare of Edendale's farm animals. This role provides a great opportunity for young people or career changers interested in a career with animals to gain experience, and for other volunteers to maintain a connection with farm life.
Animal Husbandry Volunteers are assigned a regular weekly shift and provide a huge help to farm staff, so the expectation is that volunteers are able to commit to regular attendance.
LOCATION
Edendale, 30 Gaston’s Rd, Eltham
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare feed and feeding of farm livestock (including poultry, guinea pigs and compost worms)
- Maintain and clean animal water dispensers
- Morning/Afternoon poultry chores
- Milk goats (seasonal)
- Clean animal cages and pens

TIME COMMITMENT - once a week, any day dependent on availability
AM shift, 8.30am-10.30am or
PM shift, 3.30pm-5.00pm,
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience working with animals is desirable or willingness to learn
- Good communication
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to perform physical tasks
- Able to follow detailed instructions
- Good timekeeping
SUPPORT
Training and orientation for this position will be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator and other relevant Edendale staff. Ongoing support will be provided throughout the volunteer’s involvement in the program(s)

Food Garden Assistant
PURPOSE

Edendale is a working farm and has health and safety requirements for staff and volunteers. Volunteers need to able to work safely and at times unsupervised (after initial training).
The Food Garden Assistant volunteer role is to assist in the ongoing upkeep of the food gardens and the Edendale Home Harvest Seed Library. Our Home Harvest Seed Library is a place to store seeds saved by the community, which is open and free for all gardeners to grow local food.
LOCATION
Edendale, 30 Gaston’s Rd, Eltham
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planting, mulching, watering, composting and weeding
- Selecting and tagging vegetable seedlings
- Harvesting and preparing food for sale
- Select and grow plants for the purpose of saving their seeds for the library.
- Making origami seed envelopes,
- Filling seed envelopes and completing the labels,
- Harvesting seed from the food gardens,

Grounds and Garden Assistant
PURPOSE
Edendale is an environmental education centre for people of all ages which focuses on people Connecting to nature, community, place, culture; Lifelong environmental Learning; and Leading by example.

The Grounds and Gardens Volunteer role is to assist in the maintenance of garden beds and paddocks, including the orchard and vegetable gardens

- Plant maintenance including pruning

Weekend Nursery Assistant
PURPOSE
Edendale is an environmental education centre for people of all ages which focuses on people Connecting to nature, community, place, culture; Lifelong environmental Learning; and Leading by example.

The Weekend Nursery Volunteer role is to assist in the watering of the indigenous plants in the nursery and to assist with other tasks as required.
LOCATION
Edendale, 30 Gaston’s Rd, Eltham
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The main focus of this role is to assist in the watering of the seedlings in the Edendale Nursery,
- Other tasks to be undertaken, dependent on time and watering requirements, include stocking of the retail nursery, sowing seeds, pricking out plants, taking cuttings, pruning and weeding seedlings.

Saturdays or Sundays for a two-hour shift (times to be arranged)

Visitor Interaction Volunteer
PURPOSE
Edendale is an environmental education centre for people of all ages which focuses on people Connecting to nature, community, place, culture; Lifelong environmental Learning; and Leading by example.
Edendale is a working farm and has health and safety requirements for staff and volunteers. Volunteers need to able to work safely and at times unsupervised (after initial training).
The Visitor Interaction Volunteer role is to provide opportunities for visitors to interact with the Edendale animals.
LOCATION
Edendale, 30 Gaston’s Rd, Eltham
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide opportunities, under staff direction, for the public to interact with the Edendale animals
- This may include - Guinea Pig patting, sheep feeding, goat kid interaction (may include bottle feeding), Stick Insect holding and goat brushing
- To assist staff with the preparation of other public interaction activities such as making and filling Chook Feed Packets, or collecting goat browse
- To assist staff with farm tours as required
- To assist in the maintenance of displays in reception as required

Repair Cafe volunteer
PURPOSE
Edendale is an environmental education centre for people of all ages which focuses on people Connecting to nature, community, place, culture; Lifelong environmental Learning; and Leading by example.
Edendale has health and safety procedures that all staff and volunteers are expected to adhere to.
Repair Cafe Volunteers assist in the operations of the Edendale Repair Cafe. This can include conducting repairs on items brought in by the community, as well as various administration roles associated with the running and promotion of the Repair Cafe.
LOCATION
Edendale, 30 Gaston’s Rd, Eltham
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - can include any of the following
- Setting up and packing down the Repair Cafe space
- Repair items according to skill set, for example sewing, glueing and woodwork.
- Prepare morning tea for volunteers
- Unloading and moving items to be repaired and other equipment from the carpark to the Repair Cafe space
- Administration tasks such as setting up and maintaining a booking system, managing finances and budgets
- Promoting the Repair Cafe, including recruiting volunteers, social media etc.
- Interacting with the public and sharing information about the Repair Cafe
- Maintaining a safe, clean and tidy workplace
REPORTS TO
Rostered Edendale Staff
TIME COMMITMENT
One Saturday morning a month
Occasional meetings as required
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Commitment, enthusiasm and responsibility
- Good communication
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to perform moderate physical tasks
- Able to follow safety instructions
- Ability to repair items successfully (volunteers will be matched to repair items based on their skill set)
- Willingness to work with members of the community
