Nillumbeats

POSITION PURPOSE:
Nillumbik Youth is a service provided by Nillumbik Shire Council which supports young people aged 12 to 25 years who live, work, study or play in Nillumbik.
Nillumbeats is a Youth Committee for young people aged 15-25 who are interested in music, arts and culture, and are keen to plan events for our local young community.
LOCATION:
Nillumbeats meet at the Nillumbik Youth Hub, located at 32-34 Elizabeth Street Diamond Creek.
Whilst the meetings occur at Nillumbik Youth Hub, Nillumbeats are welcome to plan events throughout Nillumbik Shire.
KEY TASKS:

- Work as a team to plan and deliver music, art or recreational activities for local young people within Nillumbik Shire

Engage with Nillumbik Council departments and external agencies for support in delivering a successful event

Work alongside Nillumbik Youth to meet individual and team goals
TIME COMMITMENT:

Nillumbeats meet on the third Monday of each month at the Nillumbik Youth Hub, from 4pm to 6pm.

Depending on the demands of an event, additional meetings may be required

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Nillumbeats welcomes young people aged 15 to 25 years from all backgrounds.
Whilst there are no required skills, it is beneficial to have the following:
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team
- An interest in event management, art, music or recreational activities
- Competency to complete Nillumbik Shire Volunteer Induction and training (Nillumbik Youth Staff can support you through this)
SUPPORT:
Nillumbeats events and meetings are fully supervised by Nillumbik Youth Staff. Events are planned by Nillumbeats members with the support and guidance of staff when required.
Please note that all members over the age of 18 must hold a valid WWCC. Nillumbik Youth Staff can provide support to apply for a Victorian Working With Children’s Check (WWCC).

- Reference check (minimum of two referees required)
- Victorian Working With Children's Check

NOTES ON PROBITY CHECKS:
Criminal Background Checks
If your role requires you to work with vulnerable members of the community, valuable Council assets or confidential information, the position has a requirement for a criminal background check. It is also a requirement that you advise Council if you are convicted of a criminal charge during the term of your volunteer position.
Working With Children Checks
If your role involves working with children or is in a location that offers activities to children, you will require a valid Working with Children Check card and assessment notice. It is a requirement of your volunteer role to advise your supervisor within seven days of receipt of a Negative Notice. As this is an inherent requirement for this position the volunteer position of individuals without a valid WWC Check will be terminated.
CHILD SAFE STANDARDS
Council is required by law to take a preventative, proactive, participatory and inclusive approach to child safety issues. Council must comply with all legal requirements, including reporting suspicions of child abuse to police and/ or child protection. You will receive an invite to Child Safe Standards training shortly after commencing. It’s a mandatory requirement for all Nillumbik Staff and volunteers to complete this.
LICENCE AND CERTIFICATION COMPLIANCE
If your role involves driving a motor vehicle (either your own vehicle or a Council vehicle) you are required to hold a current, valid and full Victorian driver’s licence. Your supervisor will require a copy of your driver’s licence prior to commencing your volunteer role. A licence and certification compliance form must be completed if your role involves driving a Council vehicle. It is also a requirement that you advise Council if your licence is cancelled or suspended during the term of your volunteer role.
