Volunteer Opportunities
All Abilities Walking Group Coordinator
PURPOSE:
To coordinate a weekly walking group for participants with limited mobility requiring a short course, slow pace and regular rests.
Support the needs of the walking group ensuring a positive and safe environment for all participants.
To provide a communication and administrative link between the participants and Living & Learning Nillumbik (L&LN).
LOCATION:
Various walking tracks and footpaths in Diamond Creek, Eltham and Hurstbridge.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- We aim to have 2-3 volunteers supporting the walking group so you can share the commitment – please coordinate between the other volunteers to ensure there is always one volunteer leader present.
- Welcome new participants and help them to get settled, add them to the WhatsApp group if they permit.
- Carry a mobile phone on the walks and call for emergency assistance if required.
- Carry the first aid kit for participants use if needed
- Coordinate the walk locations
- Ensure a positive and inclusive environment for all participants
Support the group to be responsible for:
- Scheduling meeting place locations and forwarding the schedule to L&LN for distribution to participants.
- Reporting any incidents immediately to L&LN
- Managing risks and safety requirements
- Other duties as agreed
Communicate L&LN updates and information to members on request.
Ensure volunteer hours are logged in the Better Impact database.
Ensure all Living & Learning Nillumbik policies and procedures are followed as required.
Other duties on request of a Neighbourhood House Coordinator.
REPORTS TO:
Neighbourhood House Coordinator – Diamond Creek
TIME COMMITMENT:
1.5 hours per week
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Good communication and organisation skills
Mediation and problem solving skills
Punctuality and reliability
SUPPORT:
Organisational induction training and specific task training will be provided.
Position reviews will be conducted at least on an annual basis.
All L&LN volunteer supervisors provide an open door communication environment for volunteers encouraging any questions to be asked and concerns to be raised.
First aid training will be offered but not essential.
SECURITY/MEDICAL CHECKS AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A police check is required for this position
Reference checks will be performed
WWCC may be required if parents walk with children
Completion of the Child Safe Standards online training with NSC is mandatory

Volunteers agree to abide by the NSC Volunteer Handbook and the L&LN Community Programs Handbook

Criminal Background Checks
If your role requires you to work with vulnerable members of the community, valuable Council assets or confidential information, the position has a requirement for a criminal background check. It is also a requirement that you advise Council if you are convicted of a criminal charge during the term of your volunteer position.
