Patient Experience Volunteer

The patients experience is at the heart of everything we do at Stamford Hospital, we are seeking volunteers to support our patients by offering companionship, support and help with practical tasks.

Location: John Van Geest Unit, Ryhall Road, Stamford PE9 1UA

Days/Hours required: Volunteers required: Monday – Friday 10am - 2pm

Main Tasks:
Volunteers offer vital support to all wards complementing the work of our staff and enhancing the patient’s experience. We are recruiting Volunteers to provide companionship and support for our patients whose responsibilities could include.

• Sitting and talking to patients offering companionship
• Changing water jugs
• Tidying bed area
• Activities – reading, games
• Meal time help
• Helping with the tea/coffee rounds

Requirements:
Volunteers must be reliable and able to regularly commit to an agreed day for volunteering, you will need to have excellent communication skills and be able to approach people in a confident manner to begin conversations.

The Difference you will make
A volunteer in this role will give patients something to look forward to, a regular visitor who can support and encourage patients with activities or to provide a friendly face for them to talk to, you will also provide valuable support to staff in the ward.

All successful applicants will receive a full volunteer induction which will take place at Peterborough City Hospital, relevant training and on-going support in the role. You will be issued with a volunteer badge/uniform, parking permit and be able to claim travel expenses within a 20 mile radius of the Hospital.
Additionally to the above volunteers will need to attend the Nutritional Training Course to support Patient Meal Times.

Doddington Hospital Volunteer

We are looking for a volunteer to support our patients to find the correct departments, to collect valuable feedback and to offer companionship to patients awaiting their appointments.

Phlebotomy Clinic Support Volunteer

Our Phlebotomy Clinic at Stamford Hospital is very busy and need support in managing expectations and assisting with reducing wait times.

 

Location: Stamford Hospital

 

Days/Hours required: Tuesday – Friday 2pm – 5pm

 

Main Tasks:

 

Greeting patients in the entry area, checking to see that they have brought with them their blood forms (they will not be able to be seen without these and therefore we need to check beforehand). Explaining the waiting time. Asking patients to remove their coats and have their sleeve rolled up (where possible) before going in as this will save time spent with the clinician meaning waiting times will be reduced.

Volunteers have a unique role at the Trust and make a real difference to the patient experience and enable staff to focus on ward priorities. Your support will brighten up a patient’s day and provide a friendly face to talk to. 

Requirements: We need you to commit to a fixed shift once a week. You will need to be reliable as we require volunteers who are committed to the days\times advertised, you will need to have excellent communication skills, be caring, approachable and can work as part of the team.

Volunteers will need to complete a DBS and Occupational Health declaration as part of the recruitment process, we will also conduction a risk assessment to ensure your safety and suitability for the role. Full training will be provided.
