Volunteer Positions
Adult Services (ages 18 years and up)
Bookstore volunteers help out with all aspects of the store including stocking and weeding book sale shelves, sorting and evaluating donations. You will also assist customers in finding books and checkout. We have shifts for day, evening and weekends and often need help for our semi-annual book sales.
Qualifications: Minimum 18 years of age.
Training: Library orientation and library policies.
Time Commitment: 2 - 12 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.
Youth Services (Ages 14 - 17)
Youth Services Volunteer
Youth Services volunteers assist the children's department of the library. Some of the tasks you may do are assemble crafts, assist in children's programs, clean toys, shelve books and DVDs, and copy coloring pages.
The typical schedule is one 2-hour shift per week.
Requirements: Ages 14-17. Ability to read and understand basic English and follow written and verbal instructions.
We will hold casual volunteer interviews on Tuesday, January 14th and Thursday, January 16th. Fifteen-minute timeslots are available from 2:30-4 PM. We will contact you in January to schedule if you meet our availability requirements.
You must also be able to commit to the following dates and times:
- One orientation:
- Tuesday, January 21st 2-4 PM
- Or Thursday, January 23rd 3-5 PM
- AND one training:
- Thursday, January 30th 3-5 PM
- Or Tuesday, February 4th 2-4 PM
We are also in need of volunteers for our Winterfest event on Wednesday, January 22nd. We have hours available from 3 to 7 PM.

Teen Advisory Group (Ages 14-17)
Be a part of our Teen Advisory Group (TAG) for the 2024-2025 school year! Teen volunteers ages 14-17 will meet weekly, Thursdays 2:30-4:30pm, to plan and oversee teen events, decorate the teen area, create displays and book review posters, and various other community-building activities here at the Windmill Library. Opportunities to earn additional hours will be offered throughout the year. This is a great teamwork and leadership opportunity. Applications for the 2024-2025 school year will be accepted through September 15, 2024. Applications submitted after this date will be contacted if an opening occurs during the school year, otherwise they will be held for the following school year.
Sewing Volunteer (Ages 14-17)
Sewing Volunteer
Do you like to sew? Be a Sewing Volunteer! You'll teach beginners how to use a machine and assist other teens who need help with their sewing projects.
Requirements: Ages 14-17. Must be proficient at using a sewing machine and be comfortable instructing other teens.
Time Commitment:
We will hold casual volunteer interviews on Tuesday, January 14th and Thursday, January 16th. Fifteen-minute timeslots are available from 2:30-4 PM. We will contact you in January to schedule if you meet our availability requirements.
Must be able to commit to the following dates and times (you get volunteer hour credit each time!):
- One of the following orientations:
- Tuesday, January 21st 2-4 PM
- Or Thursday, January 23rd 3-5 PM
- AND certification class to get your library sewing certificate:
- February 11th 2-4 PM
- AND at least one practice (we will be making the projects ahead of time that we’ll be doing in Maker March):
- Tuesday, February 18th, 2-4 PM
- Tuesday, February 25th, 2-4 PM
- AND at least two of the following programs for Maker March:
- March 6th, 2:30-5:30 PM
- March 13th, 2:30-5:30 PM
- March 20th, 2:30-5:30 PM
- March 27th, 2:30-5:30 PM
Remember, you will receive credit for EACH event you attend!
