- Foster Care

Animals enter our foster care system for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Being too young for adoption
  • Requiring medical treatment
  • Undergoing rehabilitation
  • Finding the shelter environment too stressful

By placing animals into foster homes, it provides them with the care and attention they need until they are ready to be adopted into loving forever homes.

What are the requirements to become an RSPCA NSW foster carer?

  • At least 18 years old, with all residents of your household agreeing to foster animals
  • provide a safe, secure environment (for dogs, 6ft high secured fencing with no gaps is required. For cats, they must remain indoors at all times)
  • Have reliable transport (i.e., car), especially in the case of an emergency
  • Live within 1.5 hours of your chosen fostering location
  • Provide daily care and record your daily observations
  • Complete an online foster care induction and quiz within 7 days
  • Communicate openly and in a timely fashion with your fostering location
  • Follow all RSPCA NSW policies, procedures and instructions
