Cranleigh Riding for Disabled

Mission Statement

Through the commitment of volunteers, RDA enables people with disabilites to ride to benefit their health and well being and to achieve their goals

Riding offers a degree of independence that many disabled people cannot have in their daily life.

There are also medical advantages - the warmth and three dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the rider's body, gradually making it more relaxed and supple, reducing spasticity and improving balance, posture and co-ordination. The movement of the pelvis influences the lumbar region and is transferred up the spine thus encouraging control of the trunk and head. Riding a horse makes mobility possible.  From the elevated position on its back, riders have an opportunity to see more than would otherwise be possible for them. The experience our riders gain through the contact they have with our ponies also helps to create a great sense of achievement and confidence. We hope that this will, in turn, make their lives easier and more fulfilled.

Fernhurst Football Club (Farnham)

Mission Statement

As with any club the members, the volunteers, the coaches and managers make it the club that it is.

The junior side of the club is now three years old and we hope to continue to build on this yet again.  We have 70 juniors registered this year which is wonderful.  We have registered 22 under 7's which means we will be able to enter at least two teams into a league next season.  We also now have an under 9 team in the South Surrey league and two under 8 teams in the North East Hants Youth League. The aim for the juniors is to build on numbers and enter more teams.

We are always keen to hear from people who would like to get involved and be part of an energetic fun team working with juniors on Saturday mornings.  This is another aim of the club, to build on our coach base and help them to manage teams should they wish to do so.

Shooting Star Children's Hospices (Guildford)

Mission Statement

Shooting Star Children's Hospices is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count. We support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Our bespoke support is free of charge to families and available 365 days a year. Our care service includes short breaks at our two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.

It costs £10 million a year just to maintain our current level of care and, with around 10% of our income coming from government funding, we rely on our supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. What’s more, we know there are many more families desperate for our vital support, so it’s crucial we raise more funds to provide more care.

We have volunteer opportunities at our hospices and at our shops.   Volunteers roles are very varied and include working in reception, kitchens, housekeeping, gardening, pool watching, admin, fundraising, shops and at our events.
