Breast Cancer Haven, Wessex
Mission Statement
Your help through the toughest times
Breast Cancer Haven is the charity that supports women through their breast cancer treatment. When breast cancer tries to rob a woman of her individuality, her confidence or her strength, we provide the tailored package of emotional, physical and practical support that helps her hold on to them.
We support women and their families via a network of six welcoming centres around the UK and through an expanding network of other services.
We're there to provide women with breast cancer the support that treatment alone can't.
How we do it
We offer advice on practical things like money and work, help combatting stress, exhaustion and nausea, advice on healthy eating and exercise. And above all, there will always be someone to talk to about your deepest fears.
Our trained professional nurses, therapists, counsellors and advisers listen to your individual concerns and give you all the practical, emotional and physical support you need in a tailor-made package.
Our support is free of charge and available in our beautiful Breast Cancer Haven centres – which are as far away from a hospital environment as you can imagine.
Each visitor to Breast Cancer Haven can expect to receive up to ten free hours' of supportive therapy time. In addition, you will also receive two hours' of nurse specialist time at the beginning and end of your tailored programme.
Our free support is also available to men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Family members
Family members and close friends of people that have been diagnosed with breast cancer can access up to four hours' of free counselling.
Anyone can come – whether you’ve just been diagnosed, having treatment or in recovery. There is no need for a doctor’s referral. So just contact us, make an appointment and we will take it from there.
If you can't get to one of our Breast Cancer Haven centres help is also available over the telephone, through our self-help films on this website or via our Haven at Home DVD which you can order free of charge from our shop.

Crossroads Care Surrey
Mission Statement
Crossroads Care is Surrey's leading charity providing respite care support to Carers. We've been working across Surrey for over 30 years, with our core purpose being to improve the quality of life of unpaid carers and those they are caring for.
COVID-19 Emergency Response
As a result of Coronavirus, Crossroads swiftly implemented a response by providing essential shopping and prescription collection services to carers and to other vulnerable people that were isolated at home. We provided regular wellbeing calls to check in on people to see how they were coping and to offer support with shopping. We're now developing a volunteer based Outreach Support and Telephone Befriending with Digital Tech project largely in response to Covid, but which enable us to continue to support people who need it with shopping and prescription collections, and also with support in learning and using digital technology. We are seeking new volunteers who are interested in providing Outreach Support and / or Telephone or Digital Befriending.
As an Outreach Support Volunteer you would support people living in the same borough as yourself with shopping and prescription collections. We would provide you with appropriate PPE and pay any related fuel costs.
As a Befriender you would support carers and other older people, or those being cared for, who are feeling isolated and alone and who would benefit from having someone to speak to simply to chat about life, the weather, local services and events etc. We're interested in hearing from volunteers who are relatively IT savvy and would be able to connect to our Cloud based phone system to make telephone or virtual calls to clients. We'd also like volunteers to get involved with an exciting new Befriending with digital tech project, through which you would be able to support people in learning to use, or building confidence in using laptops, smart phones and tablets. Even if you're not computer savvy, but would benefit from being a befriender yourself, please get in touch.
We're also looking for new Trustee's to join us now, so if you're interested in supporting us in leading the development of respite services for carers in Surrey, please enquire through our website www.crossroadscaresurrey.org.uk
We are also always looking for people that are interested in other volunteering roles, including by offering support in care or club settings, in the community or in the head office.
If you are interested in becoming part of our Surrey wide team and being involved in providing support to your community, please email us at enquiries@crossroadscaresurrey.org.uk to request a volunteer pack.
We'd love to hear from you... if you have a good understanding of what it's like to be a carer and are looking to give something back through volunteering.

Farnham Community Farm
Mission Statement
Founded in 2008, Farnham Community Farm, previously known as Farnham Local Food, is a community-run project supported by volunteer labour. Our aim is to provide fresh, locally-grown vegetables for people in and around the Farnham area.
Here’s some of the things we are proud of:
• We care about the environment and our produce has virtually no food miles.
• Our vegetables are the freshest in town, usually picked on the same day they are collected.
• Same day freshness guarantees our veg maintain valuable nutrients which are lost in mass produced supermarket veg that has travelled for miles to reach your table.
• We can grow varieties purely for taste rather than transportability.
• Although not certified, we use organic practices to grow our veg which means everything is free of pesticides.
• All our members have the opportunity to actively help out with the scheme.
We currently have places within our scheme if you would like to buy produce weekly. There are a three different sizes of veg share available at competitive prices, please refer to our weekly veg bag page for more information.
As with all community projects we always need more help in all areas of our scheme. If you think FCF is something you may enjoy being part of then come along and see us. All ages, all abilities, everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there.

GOLO, Godalming Lottery
Mission Statement
Golo is a small society lottery, run like a raffle, to raise funds for local causes in Godalming, and to foster community spirit
The Godalming Lottery was started by the Go-Godalming Association in 2008 to raise funds for local causes. It remains the only independent town lottery of this type in the country. It's a Small Society lottery run like a raffle with cash prizes. Tickets (Golos) cost £1 each and are on sale throughout the town. At the end of each month we have a Draw in the centre of town and give away 17 cash prizes totalling £1000, top prize £500. All our remaining proceeds (at least 20% of our gross takings each month) go to local causes which anyone from Godalming can suggest. We have currently given away ~£27,000 to schools, day centres, sports clubs, the museum, arts and community projects and many others. The complete list of our contributions, with photos, is available on our website. Here's just a few: We've bought computers to help elderly people learn to surf the net, goals for a children's football team, a keyboard for Godalming Theatre Group, our Jubilee Beacon, patient's tables for Milford Hospital, equipment for an eco-pond at a local school, theatre trips for young carers, and Christmas hampers for disadvantaged families.
Unllike most charity lotteries, most of our sales are done personally rather than online. Just as important as raising the money for our causes is the community spirit Golo helps nurture. It truly is a 'win win' initiative. Shops which sell Golos benefit from increased footfall. Our £500 winner each month is presented with their cheque at the outlet where the winning ticket was sold which is great publicity. We invite sponsorshop which helps cover our printing costs and is a wonderful way for local businesses to raise their profile locally and is highly cost effective.

Guildford Sea Cadets
Mission Statement
We are a very well established Sea Cadet unit that has been in operation since 1942. We were recognised in 2010 as one of the best units in the southern area. This is not only because of our central location, right in the heart of Guildford, but because of our ethos and commitment to provide top notch activities for young people.
Our superb location, perched on the banks of the River Wey near the National Trust's Dapdune Wharf, is so close to the water that you can touch it. And this fits well with our aim; to give young people the opportunity to get out onto the water, gain confidence and have a lot of laughs at the same time.
We want to keep our cadets active both on an off the water. Long evenings in the Summer months mean loads of time on the water: Kayaking, sailing, rowing and driving power boats. Then when the nights draw cold and you think that all we can do is in a classroom you find we keep active: rock climbing, leadership games and activities and sports games.
We currently have 65 cadets, male and female aged between 10 and 18, of whom 16 are Royal Marine Cadets.
We have a wide range of facilities and instructional staff which means we can offer you the opportunity to learn new skills in a safe environment whilst having loads of fun!

RSPCA Guildford and Epsom Branch
Mission Statement
The charitable objectives of the RSPCA are to promote kindness and prevent or suppress cruelty to animals by all lawful means.
The branch promotes animal welfare in the local area primarily through veterinary assistance, neutering and re-homing. We run a voucher scheme which assists local people with veterinary bills for treatment and neutering. It also helps to control dog and cat populations, thereby promoting responsible pet ownership.
The branch assists the RSPCA animal centres, mainly Millbrook and South Godstone, with re-homing unwanted and abused animals by home-visiting. We also pay for veterinary treatment of stray animals and wildlife attended to by the Inspectorate in our branch area.
The RSPCA provides advice for owners on animal care. It also helps animals brought to us for rehoming because their owners are unable or unwilling to keep them. Ill treated or injured animals are cared for by the Society. The public benefits from knowing that we can intervene to assist animals in need.
We have a website to raise awareness of the activities of the branch and to help members get more involved. We provide volunteering opportunities for those who wish to support our work, including trusteeship, fundraising and home visiting. This benefits local people and companies by providing the possibility of doing work which is compassionate and rewarding.
We also have to fundraise to enable us to continue with our charitable work. The RSPCA receives no government or lottery funding.

Helping people to help themselves for the longer term by providing life-changing opportunities through education and training.

It supports a diverse community of individuals who have various physical or learning disabilities and impairments.
Founded in 1949, The Woodlarks Centre is a charitable trust with up to 22 residents who are encouraged to lead a varied and active social life and integrate into the local community. There is an extensive programme of both in house and external activities that the residents have the choice of participating in. A significant aspect of The Woodlarks Centre is the Activity Centre which offers a variety of therapeutic arts and crafts and is available at all times for the residents.
The home is spacious yet homely, with modern equipment enabling the residents to maintain their independence. There is a Doctors Surgery next door making it extremely convenient for residents medical appointments.
Between 2011 and 2013, The Woodlarks Centre underwent an extensive renovation project resulting in all the residents’ rooms being upgraded to include an en suite wet room, and the communal areas of the home have all benefited from upgrades and modernisation to suit the residents’ requirements.
