Bike Project Surrey
Mission Statement
Who is Bike Project Surrey for?
Students not in school come to us for work experience, to learn about bikes and get an industry recognised qualification in Bicycle Care and Maintenance so that they have choices when they leave school.
People in the local community not in work, training or education can come to us to learn about bikes, get work experience and we become a positive part of their routine and life.
Volunteers support students, adults or just work on bikes – because they love bikes too.
Everyone who becomes part of Bike Project Surrey Team contributes to the welcoming and inclusive approach so that people feel good and that they belong at Bike Project Surrey.
Vision
- Everyone in the community has the chance to learn about bikes and how to look after them in an environment that is inclusive, welcoming and happy so that people feel valued and that they belong.
- Affordable bikes for the community to buy and use to travel, be healthy, fit and happy.
- Affordable bike service available to the community so that their bikes stay on the road.
- Bikes and parts recycled so that they do not contribute to landfill or pollute the environment. Riding bikes means you’re not driving.
Mission
We will provide learning opportunities around bikes for everyone – but especially for young people and adults who are not in education, employment or training. We will offer this through our Alternative Provision and adult placements.
This will be successful because Bike Project Surrey workshops are positive, happy and inclusive places to work and be with others. A shared interest and love of bikes means that while people are at Bike Project Surrey they will meet and learn skills and values from others who they might not otherwise have met.
The bikes we work on will be make made for everyone in the community as affordable recycled bikes for getting about on and keeping fit and healthy. This will also contribute an income to support the vision.
Students, adults and volunteers will be offered industry recognised qualifications, work experience and chance to ‘earn a bike’.
So Bike Project Surrey will…
- Offer access to learning and skills in the local community though partnership with Guildford College
- Provide a range of volunteering opportunities in an inclusive, non-judgemental and supportive environment
- Create opportunities to develop new skills to enhance employability
- Encourage skill-sharing and independence, where new skills are learned in a way that is empowering for all
- Involve volunteers in setting-up a new business and inspire the creation of other similar initiatives
- Promote access to cycling as an affordable and sustainable transport option
- Divert bicycles and their parts from recycling and landfill
- Encourage healthy lifestyles

Change of Scene
Mission Statement
Change of Scene objectives are to make a life changing difference for disadvantaged children. Our attendees, aged 6-18 years from Surrey & Hampshire display a wide range of complex learning, social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties causing them to be unable to access learning; many have been excluded from schools, are in short term provision, or are currently not on a school role. We work on a 1:1 basis at our 16 acre small holding in a tranquil South Farnham valley giving the children the vital support and attention they need. The children care for a wide range of animals from reptiles to alpacas. They work in the vegetable patch and polytunnel raising plants and harvesting fruit & veg; they milk the goat and make yoghurt and cheese; they do baking, make jams and chutneys; carpentry; extract & bottle honey; gather wood; repair animal houses, fences & hives; and help around the grounds. It is not a jolly day out. They work really hard in all weathers but they do also have times of rest and play.
The children gain strength through nature and an appreciation that their regular input and care makes a worthwhile contribution. The whole experience engenders calm, self-confidence, a belief in a promising future; that they can create positive outcomes for themselves. These experiences and the learning of new skills translate into the children and young people going back into education with a sense of life purpose.

Crossroads Care Surrey
Mission Statement
Crossroads Care is Surrey's leading charity providing respite care support to Carers. We've been working across Surrey for over 30 years, with our core purpose being to improve the quality of life of unpaid carers and those they are caring for.
COVID-19 Emergency Response
As a result of Coronavirus, Crossroads swiftly implemented a response by providing essential shopping and prescription collection services to carers and to other vulnerable people that were isolated at home. We provided regular wellbeing calls to check in on people to see how they were coping and to offer support with shopping. We're now developing a volunteer based Outreach Support and Telephone Befriending with Digital Tech project largely in response to Covid, but which enable us to continue to support people who need it with shopping and prescription collections, and also with support in learning and using digital technology. We are seeking new volunteers who are interested in providing Outreach Support and / or Telephone or Digital Befriending.
As an Outreach Support Volunteer you would support people living in the same borough as yourself with shopping and prescription collections. We would provide you with appropriate PPE and pay any related fuel costs.
As a Befriender you would support carers and other older people, or those being cared for, who are feeling isolated and alone and who would benefit from having someone to speak to simply to chat about life, the weather, local services and events etc. We're interested in hearing from volunteers who are relatively IT savvy and would be able to connect to our Cloud based phone system to make telephone or virtual calls to clients. We'd also like volunteers to get involved with an exciting new Befriending with digital tech project, through which you would be able to support people in learning to use, or building confidence in using laptops, smart phones and tablets. Even if you're not computer savvy, but would benefit from being a befriender yourself, please get in touch.
We're also looking for new Trustee's to join us now, so if you're interested in supporting us in leading the development of respite services for carers in Surrey, please enquire through our website www.crossroadscaresurrey.org.uk
We are also always looking for people that are interested in other volunteering roles, including by offering support in care or club settings, in the community or in the head office.
If you are interested in becoming part of our Surrey wide team and being involved in providing support to your community, please email us at enquiries@crossroadscaresurrey.org.uk to request a volunteer pack.
We'd love to hear from you... if you have a good understanding of what it's like to be a carer and are looking to give something back through volunteering.

Guildford Sea Cadets
Mission Statement
We are a very well established Sea Cadet unit that has been in operation since 1942. We were recognised in 2010 as one of the best units in the southern area. This is not only because of our central location, right in the heart of Guildford, but because of our ethos and commitment to provide top notch activities for young people.
Our superb location, perched on the banks of the River Wey near the National Trust's Dapdune Wharf, is so close to the water that you can touch it. And this fits well with our aim; to give young people the opportunity to get out onto the water, gain confidence and have a lot of laughs at the same time.
We want to keep our cadets active both on an off the water. Long evenings in the Summer months mean loads of time on the water: Kayaking, sailing, rowing and driving power boats. Then when the nights draw cold and you think that all we can do is in a classroom you find we keep active: rock climbing, leadership games and activities and sports games.
We currently have 65 cadets, male and female aged between 10 and 18, of whom 16 are Royal Marine Cadets.
We have a wide range of facilities and instructional staff which means we can offer you the opportunity to learn new skills in a safe environment whilst having loads of fun!

Mission Statement
Rowleys Centre for the Community is situated in the heart of the centre of Cranleigh. We pride ourselves on being a community venue offering many additional advantages to the local community beyond the purpose for which it was initially intended. Providing high quality services to maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of our local community is at the heart of what we do.
Purpose
Rowleys primarily offers a place for the older population to socialise, keep physically active, stay connected and acquire new skills, which has a positive impact on their overall health and wellbeing and supports reducing social isolation.
Whilst our main aim is to promote the wellbeing of all older people and assist them in making later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience we would like to ensure the Community Centre is open to all and available for other groups to utilise outside of the core offer.

Shooting Star Children's Hospices (Guildford)
Mission Statement
Shooting Star Children's Hospices is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count. We support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
Our bespoke support is free of charge to families and available 365 days a year. Our care service includes short breaks at our two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.
It costs £10 million a year just to maintain our current level of care and, with around 10% of our income coming from government funding, we rely on our supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. What’s more, we know there are many more families desperate for our vital support, so it’s crucial we raise more funds to provide more care.
We have volunteer opportunities at our hospices and at our shops. Volunteers roles are very varied and include working in reception, kitchens, housekeeping, gardening, pool watching, admin, fundraising, shops and at our events.

Mission Statement
Tackle disadvantage, social exclusion and hardship in local communities and to help people improve their life chances. We will reach out to people to equip them with the skills to improve their economic situation, to reduce their social isolation and to convince them that they have a valuable contribution to make to society.
Amongst the ways this is achieved are:
Helping people to help themselves for the longer term by providing life-changing opportunities through education and training.
- Running innovative programmes designed to keep disaffected and vulnerable young people in education, either at mainstream school or at one of our own learning centres, so that they achieve the skills and self-confidence they need for a successful and fulfilling life.
- Offering second chance learning and training to people of all ages whose lack of skills limits their opportunities and leaves them economically vulnerable.
- Making training and education programmes available to offenders and ex-offenders, both to improve their own life chances and to create safer communities by helping to reduce re-offending.
