- Zero Carbon Guildford
If you are concerned about the environment, want to make a difference but don't know how then volunteering with Zero is a good place to start. We are opening up a Zero waste shop in the centre of Guildford and are currently looking for people able to volunteer on a regular basis so we can get it up and running. We also have a number of other roles within the community hub so if you are interested in helping out then we would love to hear from you
About Zero
Zero Carbon Guildford is a charity set up to enable local community action to tackle the climate and ecological crisis and associated social issues.
Zero Carbon Guildford operates a Community Hub, in the centre of Guildford, to enable the community to come together to tackle these issues.
The Hub includes a zero-waste shop, café, climate cinema and meeting/exhibition space and showcases ways local people can make changes to help Guildford's journey towards a zero-carbon future.

General Interest
In addition to our specific volunteering roles we are always looking for people who would like to get involved and help out. If you are interested in any way we'd love for you to get in touch by applying for this 'general interest' role. There are all sorts of things that you might do but here are some ideas:
- Event organising
- Running events or organising displays on a particular area of interest
- Social media

- Indoor gardening
Event Steward
A Volunteer Event Steward is part of a team who are responsible for ensuring larger events at ZERO (our building in the Centre of Guildford) run smoothly.
The responsibilities of the Volunteer Event Steward team may include:
- Setting up ZERO for an event.
- Directing guests around the building.
- Providing information to guests.
- Serving refreshments.
- Clearing down ZERO after an event. Events Stewards will work with the on-duty Venue Custodian to help ensure the smooth running of ZERO.
What this role offers:
- An opportunity to be part of a team making an exciting new community project happen.
- The chance to build contacts and friendships with like minded people in the Guildford environmental community.
- A reference from one of the Trustees of ZERO Carbon Guildford for your future development.
Desirable skills, experience and qualities (Ideally, the candidate will possess at least some of the following skills, experience and qualities):
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Friendly attitude when dealing with others
- Willingness to be a proactive part of a team
- Desire to be part of the ZERO team
- Interest in environmental, climate and ecological matters.
Hours: Ad-hoc, depending on availability and ZERO event programme

What you would do:
- You'd be on the look out for outreach opportunities for Zero to get involved in e.g. Great Big Green Week, local fairs and events etc.
- You'd liaise with our operations team to agree the goals of each event
- You'd co-ordinate our fabulous volunteers at our outreach events
- You'd represent Zero at the events

Green Hub Project for Teens
Like all community organisations, volunteers sit at the heart of what we do, so naturally we are really keen to talk to you if you have an interest in teenagers, mental health, or gardening. Or even all three!
Of course, spending time in the garden with our teenage volunteers is super important but there are other roles too, depending on your skills – we’ve listed some key roles that we are currently hoping to fill below. The Green Hub Project for Teens is a local community project serving Surrey & Hampshire and surrounding areas. It supports young people (11-18) facing social, emotional and mental health challenges, along with their families and carers. In addition, Green Hub works to promote awareness and understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing for young people in the broader community.
Green Hub’s purpose is to achieve positive, measurable outcomes for teen mental health, including self-love, active lifestyles, social interaction and inclusion, as well as the development and application of a range of learned skills. Green Hub achieves this through its Teen Garden social prescribing programme, talks and support groups within the local community, along with sharing useful information via the website.

The Macular Society is the national charity for anyone affected by central vision loss. We have more than 21,000 members and, as the biggest membership group in the sight loss sector, we are the voice of people with macular conditions. We provide information and support to improve the lives of people with macular disease and to ensure no one has to face it alone. We have around 400 Macular Society support groups around the UK and beyond, run by volunteers. We have a helpline as well as befriending and counselling services and we offer one-to-one training in skills to make the best use of remaining vision. Puttenham Barn is run by a small environmental charity called Project Oasis North Downs (POND).
Its mission is to provide simple inexpensive overnight accommodation in a 250 year old barn, in an environmentally responsible way.
It is aimed at walkers, cyclists & people enjoying the surrounding beautiful countryside.
The Barn has many environmental features including solar panels (on its bike shed!), rainwater harvesting & local varieties of apple trees in the garden.
We aim to open at weekends, during school holidays and on as many other nights as we can between Easter & October.

We are a registered charity created by a dedicated team of volunteers whose main purpose is to support and raise funds to assist ex-service personnel immediately when they find themselves in times of difficulty. This is done by holding various events and the generous donations and goodwill of supporters. We run a memorial woodland which is lovingly tended to by our Founder and Chair, Paul ‘The Hat’ Cooling, and a team of volunteers. It is used by ex-soldiers, sailors and airmen and their families as a place of reflection and by local community groups and organisations like the cubs, scouts and schoolchildren to get closer to nature.

Rainbow Trust provides emotional and practical support for families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
This support comes from Family Support Workers who perform a role most people couldn’t imagine. They maintain a sense of normality for the family by helping with hospital trips, performing household duties, taking the siblings to school and in many cases providing care during the final stages of a child’s life, helping with funeral arrangements and bereavement support.
Rainbow Trust has nine care teams across England in Surrey, North East London and Essex, Central London, West London, County Durham, Cumbria, Manchester, Swindon and Southampton. Last year they supported 1,361 families.
Rainbow Trust's vision is that one day all terminally ill children and their families will have access to a Rainbow Trust Carer.
