Mission Statement

Age UK Surrey aims to:

  • promote the wellbeing of older people in Surrey
  • improve public awareness of issues concerning ageing
  • influence public policy to meet the needs of older people
  • work with other agencies in the provision of relevant services for older people

If you have the time - however little - there are so many ways in which you can help.

The rewards are great.  You will use your skills, meet new people, have fun and find it very, very rewarding.  You can be sure that the time you give is making a positive difference to older people in the community.

Cherry Trees (East Clandon)

Cherry Trees supports some of the most vulnerable children in Surrey, as well as their families. Our home from home respite care is a lifeline to over 100 families. As a volunteer, you can be part of the Cherry Trees community, making a difference every single day.

Farncombe Day Centre

Mission Statement

To encourage social inclusion by providing a welcoming and stimulating environment in which to meet. To facilitate and promote better health among older people. To enable the elderly to be independent and allow them to enjoy life in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Day Centre provides a range of services which are accessible, affordable and attractive for the elderly of Farncombe and Godalming, including:

Farnham ASSIST

Mission Statement

VolunteersOur mission is to support older people living in Farnham to prevent loneliness and isolation. We are here to listen when people wish to talk and them to our events.

Volunteer Roles

Cook / Food Preparation Assistant

Memorial lunch volunteers

 

As part of our Volunteer Team you will receive regular updates and training, opportunities to attend our events and be rewarded with the appreciation of our clients for whom this may be an essential lifeline.   

 

For monthly weekend lunches for older people: the Cook agrees the menu with the Lunch Coordinator, oversees the cooking and serving of the food and clears up the cooking area. The Food Preparation Assistants help the cook prepare the vegetables etc, serve the lunch and clear the cooking area.

Experience and enjoyment of cooking (particularly for the role of Cook), enjoys working as part of a team, enjoys company. Cooks must hold a food hygiene certificate (training for this will be provided by Farnham ASSIST, if necessary).

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMMIT TO ONCE A MONTH.  YOU WILL BE ON A ROTA WITH OTHER COOKS

As part of our Volunteer Team you will receive regular updates and training, opportunities to attend our events and be rewarded with the appreciation of our clients for whom this may be an essential lifeline.  All help gratefully received whether once a month or once a year.

Volunteers are needed to help at our monthly weekend lunches for older people.

You will assist with carrying the meals to the tables, clearing the tables, help with the washing up, and help clear up the dining room and the kitchen.

You should be able to work well in a team.

Applications from students (aged 14 and over) undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Award would be welcome to apply.

Footsteps Drop-In Centre (Guildford)

Footsteps have been helping homeless, disadvantaged and lonely members of our community for over 30 years.

Every Sunday we open the Beverley Hall centre in Guildford from 4.30pm. We provide free food, and advice & support should people need it. We are always on the lookout for volunteers so please get in touch to find out more.

Hale Community Centre - Youth Centre

Following on from the huge success of our new youth group we are getting busier and are now looking for more volunteers to help us expand!

We are currently recruiting people from all backgrounds to join our vibrant youth team supporting our youth work in Sandy Hill, Upper Hale.

All we ask from you is a willingness to learn, commitment to one evening per week (term time), kindness and resilience.  We will provide training and support from the outset and you will be working alongside experienced Youth Workers. We are currently looking for people who are free on Wednesday evenings but other opportunities will be coming up in the next 3 months as we expand.

This is a great opportunity to give back, feel good about helping others and really make a difference to the lives of young people!

Volunteers will require an Enhanced DBS check and suitable references.

The halow project is a growing community-based charity, situated in Guildford, Surrey. We support young people, aged 16+, with a learning disability on their journey into adult life.

Jacobs Well Afternoon Tea

Jacobs Well Afternoon Tea Mission Statement

The Jacobs Well Afternoon Tea is a not-for-profit organisation which is now in its 14th year. We provide a comfortable venue with the serving of sandwich's and cakes. The objective is to provide somewhere where local people can meet and chat.

The Tea is held once a month on a Monday.

Excess funds are donated to charity

Afternoon Tea Helper

We hold afternoon teas on the 2nd Monday of each month at Jacobs Well Village Hall for local people to come together and socialise. Profits are donated to charity.

We need people to help serve afternoon tea to our customers from 2pm - 6pm or bake cakes, prepare sandwiches. If you are only able to do an hour we would still welcome your help.

Reasonable expenses (e.g. for ingredients) will be paid.

Museum of Farnham

Mission Statement

The Museum of Farnham is housed in Willmer House, a Grade I listed building with many original features and a delightful walled garden.

Here you can discover the tales of William Cobbett and George Sturt whilst marveling at the inventions of John Henry Knight. Over the years Farnham has been home to many artists and craftsmen and the Museum has a fine collection by local artists including Stephen Elmer, WH Allen, Harold Falkner and Sir John Verney, as well as Farnham Greenware.

Our local studies library is a treasure trove of information on Farnham which cannot be found anywhere else. We have maps, census data, parish records, electoral rolls, street directories, newspapers, a photographic archive and more.

The walled garden is a hidden treasure of Farnham, with a tranquil and serene feel year round. Our Garden Gallery is a popular venue and available for hire for parties, exhibitions, talks and much more.

The Clockhouse Day Centre (Milford)

Mission Statement

We offer a warm and friendly environment for the over 50's where members can meet new friends, take part in our many activities or join us for outings or holidays. 

The Clockhouse is open Monday to Friday 9.30am-3.30pm. We provide a range of services including hairdressing, chiropody, reflexology, hearing and sight tests. 

We offer a in-expensive 2 course homemade lunch with a variety of alternatives on a daily basis as well as a snack bar offering hot drinks, biscuits and homemade cakes.
