Guildford Action
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us — we’re really glad you’re here.
Guildford Action supports people across our community, from adults experiencing homelessness, isolation or poor mental health, to families who may be struggling and need extra support. Our aim is simple: to create a place where people feel safe, supported and treated with dignity.
Our volunteers are a big part of making that happen.
We don’t expect you to have all the answers or previous experience. What matters most is being friendly, open, and willing to spend time alongside others. Whether you’re helping in the kitchen, welcoming people at the door, supporting a group, or spending time chatting with someone, your presence can make a real difference.
Volunteering isn’t just about giving back — it’s also about what you gain. Many of our volunteers tell us they enjoy:
- Meeting new people and feeling part of a team
- Building confidence and trying something new
- Gaining experience and developing new skills
- Having a sense of purpose and connection
We’ll support you every step of the way, from your first visit through to getting settled into your role. We’ll take the time to find something that works for you.
If you’re thinking about volunteering with us, the next step is simple — get in touch and we’ll invite you in for an informal chat so you can see if it feels like the right fit.
We’d love to hear from you.
Mission Statement
To enhance the lives of all those we come into contact with.
Volunteer for Guildford Action
Receptionist at Welcome Desk

What you’ll be doing
The Welcome Desk is the first point of contact for people coming into our service, so this role is all about creating a friendly, calm and organised environment from the moment someone arrives.
You’ll help people feel at ease, understand what’s available, and make sure everything runs smoothly at the front of house.
Tasks might include:
- Welcoming people as they arrive and signing them in
- Checking what support they might need that day
- Answering phone calls and passing on messages
- Supporting with basic admin tasks
- Helping create a calm and approachable front-of-house atmosphere
What we’re looking for:
- Someone warm, approachable and organised
- Comfortable talking to a range of people
- Able to stay calm if it gets busy
- Basic confidence with admin tasks (we’ll support you)
What you’ll get from it:
- Being a key part of how people experience the service
- Lots of varied interaction with people
- The chance to make people feel welcome and supported from the start
