Voluntary Action South West Surrey

We are looking for support running Guildfordians rugby financial affairs.  This can be a full Treasurer role, or any of the following parts of it depending on volunteer preferences.

• Outgoings - Approving and making payments
• Receipts - Reconciling receipts, chasing payment of invoices
• Accounts - Preparing end of year accounts for AGM and filing at Companies House and HMRC
• Budgeting - Preparing budgets for the year
• Maintain Xero accounts package

The role can be undertaken remotely, but our preference would be for someone who wants to integrate with the club and attend matches, social events, etc., and thereby benefit from the Guildfordians community.

Some accounts skills would be desirable, as would familiarity with the Xero accounts package but this is very intuitive and likely can be quickly picked up.

Guildfordians Rugby Club would welcome to oversee the club's compliance with Companies House, HMRC and like filings.

Are you an organised, financially adept individual, with a few hours a month to help Joyfull Greens remotely and flexibly.? 

Joyfull Greens is a fairly new Community Interest Company, we are still in our first year.

We need help with basic book keeping and end of year filing. 

Advice on whether everything is done within accepted accounting practice and to help us keep proper records.

Simple monthly or bi-monthly report on the financial position for meetings (balance sheet, budget monitoring reports, cash flow, fundraising performance etc).

Qualities

• Friendly, reliable and professional. 
• Knowledge of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management.
• Good financial analysis skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly

We are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to become collection tin coordinators to help run our collection tin programmes in the local community  throughout the year! Could you help us?

We are primarily looking for volunteers in the following locations:

• Guildford
• Godalming
• West Clandon
• Elstead
• Farnborough
• Farnham

However, please do get in touch if you are interested and live elsewhere. We will try our best to make arrangements to support your volunteering in your local community.

This role will involve:

• Liaising with shops, businesses and offices in your area to ask them to keep an RSCH Charity collection tin in a prominent place.
• Collecting full tins and supplying new ones.
• Counting and banking the collected money and recording it accurately, and completing simple reports so you can keep track of how they’re doing.
• Informally discussing other ways the business may support our work (for example, if one of their employees wants to run a marathon for us) and passing leads to us.

This role would suit you if you are organised, honest, confident, collaborative, have good local knowledge and really want to get involved with your local hospital and community!

By helping to raise money and awareness for The Royal Surrey County Hospital Charity you are helping to ensure that patients at the Royal Surrey County Hospital receive exceptional care in a welcoming and safe environment. Fundraising is vital to support our work and collection tins in your local community are a valuable asset in helping us to do just that.

You may need to be able to travel locally, whether by car or public transport. All reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed, according to the NHS Travel and Subsistence Policy.

You will be supported by the fundraising team and will have guidance on the role and NHS volunteering process.

This role can be flexible around your schedule and the amount of time you spend depends on how large an area you’d like to cover, so please get in touch if you are interested!

About the Charity

The Cedar House Charity was set up for mothers experiencing prenatal and postnatal depression in 2004 and offers support to mothers by holding free weekly group therapy sessions. The groups provide a safe, supported, and confidential environment where mothers can get together with others who may be feeling similar to themselves and are facilitated by our specialist postnatal depression counsellor, Liz Wise. Liz has thirty years’ experience in facilitating groups, providing counselling and has personal experience of the illness. The groups aid their recovery by making them feel normal and reducing the sense of isolation that postnatal depression can bring.

​The charity has been running since 2004 in Surrey, and now also provides a support group in South London. Each group provides creche facilities and both this and the group are free of charge. We get no funding from the NHS or local authorities and rely solely on private donations, grants and fundraising events.

Charity Trustee

Purpose of role:               

Key purpose of the charity trustee role is to function as one of the key decision makers of Cedar House, providing leadership, guidance, support and making decisions for the benefit of the charity and the work that it does. The charity trustee’s will safeguard the charity's assets – both physical assets, including property, and intangible ones, such as its reputation. Cedar House is a small charity, and we rely on the time given generously by our volunteers, including our trustees. These roles require a positive, active input to the shared responsibility of overall governance and fundraising efforts, vital to keeping the charity going.

Key Responsibilities:      

Cedar House Charity Trustees are required to attend 3 board meetings per annum, where the financials including accounts, funding/grant applications and other related topics will be discussed. All trustees must be an active member of the board as it is small. The board members may also share the board roles including Treasurer, Secretary, Chair, safeguarding and communications/fundraising.

Key duties include:

• Ensure the charity is conducting its purposes for the public benefit
• Comply with the charity's governing document and the law
• Acting in the charities best interest
• Managing the charity's resources responsibly (including finances)
• Acting with reasonable care and skill
• Ensuring the charity is accountable.

Eligibility criteria:             

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must not have been previously disqualified
• Fit the criteria of ‘fit and proper person’ under Finance Act 2010 HRMC
• Can undertake and pass Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
•  Able to travel to Guildford, Surrey for the 3 Trustee Board meetings per year

Key Experience:  

•  Worked in teams of people
•  Experience of making objective decisions, based on factual evidence
•  Understanding of financial information
