Volunteer opportunities

Help tell the stories of lives changed by war and conflict.
As a Discover volunteer you will be the warm and welcoming face of the museum helping visitors feel special and valued. You will be able to make recommendations based on their personal interests and provide information to make sure that they get the very most out of their visit.

Discover volunteers are confident using their initiative, intuition and are proud of being an IWM ambassador. As well as helping visitors explore our exhibits and activities volunteers also welcome school groups and help to point out key facilities, address access needs and highlight our ‘Hidden Gems’. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, engaging and passionate about the IWM and its charitable message.

Warship Conservation

Help Keep HMS Belfast Ship Shape
HMS Belfast joined the Imperial War Museums collection in 1978, becoming a museum and also the largest item in our collection. As both a historical object and museum its needs are unique and it requires constant conservation work. It is through our Conservation Teams' efforts that HMS Belfast remains in the best possible state for visitors to come aboard.
