As part of the application process, we will ask you to agree to register as a National Trust Volunteer.  Volunteers are may be required to have a current Working with Children’s Card (free for volunteers) and police check which you can apply for as part of the application process.

To qualify as a Youth Volunteer with the NTAV you must be under 18 years of age.  
Individuals who are 12 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a carer whilst volunteering, who is also a registered NTAV volunteer and provide written consent from their guardian.  Individuals who are aged between 13-17 years of age are eligible to volunteer having provided written guardian consent.

Love Vintage? Join us and help at the iconic Vintage Clothing Sale being held at Abbotsford Convent this March! The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) are seeking a Volunteers to support our core Volunteering Team  in the lead up to and across the sale 21st and 22nd March 2025.   

Volunteer activities could include: 

• Attend at the Convent in the immediate weekdays in the lead up to the Sale Weekend. 
• Assist with Front of House, Clothing redistribution, Dressing Room, Cashier duties, and many more practical and helpful roles. 
• Be supported and work co-operatively with other volunteers and immerse ourself in one in an important NTAV fundraiser
• Tasks can vary depending on the day,

Volunteer Opportunity: Help Continue Our Iconic Vintage Clothing Sale!

For 15 years, a dedicated and inspiring group of women have collected, mended, and sold vintage apparel, accessories, and objects—raising invaluable funds for the National Trust of Australia (Victoria).This admired team is now retiring, and we are seeking expressions of interest from passionate volunteers who would love to carry forward this cherished tradition. If you have an knowledge of  fashion brands, vintage fashion, sustainable fashion, retail, or community fundraising, we’d love to hear from you!

Join us in ensuring this Iconic Vintage Clothing Sale continues for another 15 years.

 Volunteer activities could include : 

• Actively interact with NTAV staff to ensure constant flow of donated items 
• Attend weekly working bees at Rippon Lea as clothing and items are prepared for the Sale. 
• Possibly attend donation pickups to curate our items 
• Attend Abbotsford Convent in the immediate weekdays in the lead up to the Sale Weekend. 
• Be supported and work co-operatively with other volunteers and immerse ourself in an important NTAV fundraiser
• Tasks can vary depending on the day, week and season
• And many more practical, essential roles,  and helpful roles.

• An interest in fashion, clothing, antiques and sustainable clothing practice is desirable
• Positive work ethic appreciated

Imagine spending your volunteer days surrounded by exquisite vintage garments, stunning accessories, and timeless style. As a Fashion Retail Volunteer with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), you’ll help prepare and present unique pieces for exhibitions, retail events, and our iconic Vintage Clothing Sale across a 12 month calendar. This is your backstage pass to the world of heritage fashion—and a chance to preserve it for future generations. 

As a Preventative Conservation Cleaning Volunteer with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), you will play an essential role in preserving our cultural heritage. This role involves caring for historical objects and building interiors through preventative conservation and intensive cleaning practices. Volunteers will receive training and follow detailed guidelines from the NTAV Housekeeping Manual to ensure the safe and effective care of collection items.

Inductions are done through out the year.

Positions are available at Como House, Rippon Lea, Mulberry Hill, McCrae Homestead, Gulf Station, and other properties.

Volunteer activities could include: 

• Preventative conservation and intensive cleaning 
• Dust, clean and polish collection objects and building fabric as per techniques described in the NTAV housekeeping manual 
• Follow list of objects needing intensive cleaning and tick off when completed

Knowledge and Skills required :  

• Some object handling understanding and willingness to learn
• Time management  skills and awareness
• Basic IT skills

• Comfortable using email, Word, and basic digital tools
• Friendly and professional in liaising with external stakeholders

• Gain practical experience in festival and event administration
• Develop skills in stakeholder liaison, marketing, and copywriting
• Connect with professionals and communities passionate about heritage
• Contribute to meaningful work that celebrates cultural diversity and connection to place
