Hahndorf Academy

Situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, the Hahndorf Academy is a magical place where visual arts and heritage meet.

The Academy Shop showcases quality hand crafted products by local and regional artists and designers. We are proud to stock works from over 100 local artists in our beautiful shop including glass, jewellery, prints, cards, skin care, books, clothing and original artwork.

There is an ever-changing panorama of contemporary visual art to discover in our Gallery

You can also absorb the local history in our German Migration Museum and be captivated by objects and stories relating to the lives of Hahndorf’s pioneering families.   Starting out as a boarding school, and later a maternity hospital, if the walls of the 19th Century Heritage building could talk they would tell remarkable stories of history and courage and fear and excitement as early settlers created new lives for themselves.

Built in 1872 by George T Griggs, who was the original postmaster for Prospect Hill, the Museum holds the original post office and local shop.

The building known as the Ann Russell Home, houses room settings depicting early pioneer life with a parlour, kitchen, two bedrooms and a room housing photographs.

The original 1940’s dairy shows the history of the milking industry.

The rebuilt barn houses the Ash Wednesday Bushfire Memorial, RSL/CWA/Scout exhibits. There is also a working blacksmith’s shop and the original Meadows School house.

Flag Tree Reserve houses the Engine Shed with a large collection of transport, logging and farming history and working engines.

The Prospect Hill Historical Museum is cared for by a group of volunteers and the Prospect Hill Community Association who are dedicated to the legacy wish of the Griggs family - to continue to show the history of Prospect Hill’s pioneer days.

Torrens Valley Community Kindergym

We are a small community kindergym run by a parent committee and we are based in the Gumeracha Town Hall. Our classes are on Monday mornings during term time with an all-ages class from 9:30-10:30am and an under 2-year class from 11-11:45am.

Ideally, we would love a volunteer to assist from 9am-12pm (time negotiable) to support our leader with any last minute set up and then to sit in the foyer and welcome, check in members on our excel spreadsheet, process square device EFTPOS and then attend the sessions to support the leader and families. We require a working with children police check (free for volunteers). This role would be great for a retiree, student or anyone interested in supporting the local community. We will provide full support and training to make the person comfortable in the role.
