Hahndorf Academy

Situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, the Hahndorf Academy is a magical place where visual arts and heritage meet.

The Academy Shop showcases quality hand crafted products by local and regional artists and designers. We are proud to stock works from over 100 local artists in our beautiful shop including glass, jewellery, prints, cards, skin care, books, clothing and original artwork.

There is an ever-changing panorama of contemporary visual art to discover in our Gallery

You can also absorb the local history in our German Migration Museum and be captivated by objects and stories relating to the lives of Hahndorf’s pioneering families.   Starting out as a boarding school, and later a maternity hospital, if the walls of the 19th Century Heritage building could talk they would tell remarkable stories of history and courage and fear and excitement as early settlers created new lives for themselves.

Southern Cross Care SA & NT

Southern Cross Care is an established and respected not-for-profit organisation specialising in services for older people. We provide a continuum of care to meet the changing needs and choices of our older people.
Our focus is on helping people to age healthily, maintain independence, stay informed and keep connected with family and friends. Our Compassionate, Capable, Collaborative, Creative values are in the work that we do and are our guiding principles in driving our health promoting approach.

We create an age friendly environment which values dignity, individuality and diversity, not only for our clients, but also for our employees and volunteers. We encourage you to consider the cultural and personal background of our colleagues by showing interest, respecting different beliefs and celebrating the skills, knowledge and personalities we all bring to our workplace.

Southern Cross Care works to enhance the quality of life of the people accessing our services. Our health promoting approach focuses on supporting people to increase control of their health in order to improve it. At Southern Cross Care we believe all people have the right to achieve their best health, regardless of age or illness. We encourage older people, their families or representatives to be active partners in making informed decisions about their services to improve overall health and wellbeing.
We understand our valuable role in creating environments to achieve healthy ageing for our clients, staff and volunteers.
Research shows the most important factors that influence quality of life for older people are physical health, social relationships, healthy environments and psychological wellbeing (WHO 2002). These four domains have been embedded throughout our service delivery model to promote healthy ageing and overall quality of life. Our approach also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages.

Rob Lock, Health and Wellness Services and The Pines Lodge Volunteer

“I have been accessing Southern Cross Care Community Health and Wellness Services for 13 years. They have helped me immensely; therefore I wanted to return the favour by volunteering. I am involved in marketing activities such as attending expos and special events. I speak to all medical students completing their placement around my experiences with Southern Cross Care; I also work in the Pines Conifer Emporium and whatever else is needed. I am yet to say no to anything.
Not only is volunteering rewarding, it is a great social outlet, and I have met so many new people. I feel valued and I find Southern Cross Care staff to be positive and they make me feel a part of their family.”

Torrens Valley Community Kindergym

Torrens Valley Community Kindergym

We are a small community kindergym run by a parent committee and we are based in the Gumeracha Town Hall. Our classes are on Monday mornings during term time with an all-ages class from 9:30-10:30am and an under 2-year class from 11-11:45am.

Ideally, we would love a volunteer to assist from 9am-12pm (time negotiable) to support our leader with any last minute set up and then to sit in the foyer and welcome, check in members on our excel spreadsheet, process square device EFTPOS and then attend the sessions to support the leader and families. We require a working with children police check (free for volunteers). This role would be great for a retiree, student or anyone interested in supporting the local community. We will provide full support and training to make the person comfortable in the role.
