Summer work placement

Our summer work experience programme gives young people from 14-19 studying in schools or colleges the opportunity to spend a week in the museum gaining hands on experience in a busy visitor attraction.

Half-term Helper Volunteer

Volunteer Role Description
Department: Visitor Experience
Title: Half-term Helper Volunteers
Reports to: Visiter Experience Team Leader / Volunteer Coordinator  
 
Half-term helpers are a limited volunteering opportunity supporting the half-term activity week only. Further volunteering opportunities with the Museum may be available to apply for following 

 

Purpose

Volunteers will support the Visitor Experience and Communities Teams during the delivery of half-term activities at the Museum, working alongside staff to enhance visitor engagement in planned activity areas. The volunteer role will support staff with the setup, delivery, and clear up of scheduled activities including craft sessions and creative performances. Providing additional support and engagement to participants to ensure an enjoyable experience for all visitors.

 

Main areas of responsibility 

  • Assisting the VE team to set-up and pack away activity areas making sure resources are well stocked and ready for use by participants
  • Welcoming visitors to the activity area and encouraging involvement 
  • Letting visitors know about the events taking place and offering information about the Museum
  • Following the lead of the VE team to support the activity delivery
  • Assisting with any enquiries from the public around the activity and general enquiries about the Museum
  • To follow the Volunteer Agreement guidelines and related organisational policies (Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Security).

Time Commitment

This volunteer role takes place across the February half-term: Monday 17 – Sunday 23 February. Volunteers will be able to choose their own shifts within this week with a minimum of 2 shifts. Shifts are usually 10:30am – 3:30pm with a 30-minute break.
