Virtual Volunteer Opportunities available for Adults 18+:

Virtual Volunteering - Book Club Leader (Virtual)

Are you an avid reader looking for a rewarding way to virtually connect with your community? San José Public Library is looking for enthusiastic readers interested in leading regular online book discussions to create an online community through a shared love of books.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Understand how to search the SJPL catalog and eBooks for titles that are widely available for people to access from home 
  • Select appropriate book titles for people to read together
  • Lead and facilitate book conversations with and between new people
  • Listen attentively and involve everyone in the discussion
  • Have basic skills for conducting online meetings with SJPL staff support

Commitment/Schedule

Willingness to volunteer at least once a month for a 6-month duration. Schedule is dependent on the availability of the volunteer.

 

Virtual Volunteering - Dance Party Hosts (Virtual)

Does music make your heart jump up and move? San José Public Library is looking for musically inclined people to assist in dance party productions by researching and preparing playlists, submitting ideas, and recording dance demos for a designated target audience.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Collaborate with SJPL staff and submit script/commentary for review
  • Demonstrate choreographed or freestyle dance moves to music
  • Film a dance tutorial video using their recording equipment
  • Follow Creative Commons and Fair Use Laws
  • Provide video to SJPL for upload to our YouTube Channel

Commitment/Schedule

Willingness to volunteer at least for a 6 month duration, preparing at least two or three prerecorded or live programs. Schedule is dependent on the availability of the volunteer.

 

Virtual Volunteering - Tech Assistance (Virtual)

Are you tech savvy and willing to help those you aren't? San José Public Library is looking for volunteers willing to guide users one-on-one with their basic technology queries by meeting on Zoom.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Assist people online with basic to advanced tech skills
  • Communicate clear instructions to tech inquiries
  • Answer tech related questions

Commitment/Schedule

Willingness to volunteer at least once a month for a 6-month duration. Schedule is dependent on the availability of the volunteer.

 

Virtual Volunteering - Virtual Hobby, Craft and Skill Coordinator

Do you do Origami?  3D Printing?  Sew?  Make greeting cards?  Or maybe you want to help people start butterfly gardens?  There are so many possibilities, and we'd love to host a program for you. 
 
Almaden Branch is looking for adult volunteers who want to share their love for hobbies, crafts, and games in the community. We are looking for volunteers who can commit a couple hours a week to share their passion!  Due to the Shelter in Place Order, these programs will be run online, preferably live via Zoom. 

 

Commitment/Schedule

Willingness to volunteer at least once a month for a 6-month duration. Schedule is dependent on the availability of the volunteer. For a live streaming program, volunteer must be available at the time of the program they are running.
