DFV Reception Services
Our volunteers are trained community members who provide first point of contact support to court users in Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Courts. Our volunteers are a central point of contact for court users. Providing arrival triage, referral to duty lawyers, assistance with warm referrals to in court supports, liaising with court users and service providers to promote and ensure the smooth running of the daily court list. Our volunteers also provide directional support and general information about court processes and what court users can expect on the day of court.
Main duties and expectations:
- Provide a welcoming and supportive human connection to all court users
- Actively engage with court users, to assist them to navigate and fully participate in their court experience
- Recognise and respond to individual service user needs and concerns
- Provide service users with support and information, referring to in court services
- Promote service user safety
- Work independently as well as within a team
- Able to follow instructions and practice guidelines
- Digital literacy and confidence; record-keeping, emailing, communication and information sharing
- Adherence to privacy policy requirements
Our volunteers must have strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to foster inclusivity and a person-centered approach to supporting all court users, impartially and non-judgmentally.
This multifaceted and interesting role is best suited to someone who is proactive, a ‘people-person’, passionate about improving access to justice and is wanting to volunteer on an ongoing and regular basis.
