Mission Statement

The mission of Be You Promiso.org is to educate Canadians on the benefits of moderation or restraint in the use of alcohol and/or drugs. One of our objectives is to educate our youth by doing school presentations about the choices and the consequences of misusing drugs and alcohol and the effects it has on society as a whole.

Through education, outreach and awareness,Be You Promise.org works to prevent the initiation of substance use among youth or prevent further substance use among those individuals already using with the ultimate goal of reducing the personal and societal harms associated with drug and alcohol misuse.

VICTORIA COOL AID SOCIETY

Homelessness touches many lives at a significant cost to communities. The Cool Aid Society has been a key player in the work to end homelessness in the Capital Region for decades and, with your help, is developing 360 more apartments for people who are currently homeless.

MISSION

We act to end homelessness by working in partnership with others to develop community-based solutions.  We are committed to working in a non-judgmental way with adults experiencing marginalization in Greater Victoria by advocating for and providing emergency shelter, supportive housing, integrated health care and other support services.

OUR VISION

The Victoria Cool Aid Society acts to end homelessness and improve our quality of life by working with others to build a community where:

  • No one is forced to sleep on the street or go hungry.
  • Everyone who needs supportive housing is getting it.
  • Integrated health care service to treat illness and promote wellness is provided.
  • Integrated services are provided to those with mental health and addiction issues.

Creating Homefulness Society- Woodwynn Farms

Mission Statement

Woodwynn Farms is a therapeutic community for the homeless with a unique and compassionate approach to helping people in need. Participants and volunteers live and work together on the farm, each day beginning with yoga along with mindfulness practices woven throughout the day. Meals are enjoyed together, consisting of nutritious, organic farm-grown food. This brings people back to health physically, spiritually, and mentally, so they can flourish and contribute to their communities. We operate by the motto believe in people until their ready to believe in themselves.

Woodwynn Farms Event Coordinator

Woodwynn Farms is a Therapeutic Community for the Homeless located in Central Saanich.


We are hoping to get one or more volunteers to join our team to work towards building and growing Woodwynn’s community and social engagement.


We are specifically looking for someone to take on an Events Coordinator role for both small and medium scale events for Woodwynn to increase community awareness of our program, our market, and peace garden, while additionally fostering community building and connection.

We are looking for volunteers who have, or seek, experience with marketing, social media, and event planning, although this experience is not required!
The time commitment is flexible and some projects can be worked on individually over the computer. Team meetings will be arranged regularly as needed.

This is a unique, fun and valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a well-known charitable organization.

Our Place Society

Mission Statement

Our Place Society is a community centre serving Greater Victoria's most vulnerable citizens: the working poor, impoverished elderly, the mentally and physically challenged, the addicted and the homeless. We serve over 1,500 meals per day, and provide hot showers, free clothing, counseling and outreach services, plus 45 transitional housing units. Most importantly, we provide a sense of hope and belonging to our neighbours in need.

Together Against Poverty Society

Mission Statement

The Together Against Poverty Society (TAPS) is the largest antipoverty organization on Vancouver Island. It was incorporated in 1989. TAPS provides free, individual legal advocacy services for people facing income assistance, disability benefits, employment standards and tenancy issues. TAPS provides public legal education to ensure that all individuals and service providers understand their rights and responsibilities so they are better able to advocate on their own behalf. TAPS also provides broader advocacy on issues relating to poverty.

Volunteer Access Mental Health Visiting & Activity Program

The Mental Health Visiting & Activity program matches community volunteers with individuals living in mental health group homes to provide companionship and reduce isolation.  

Join the Mental Health Visiting & Activity Program

Do you want to make a difference in the life of someone with mental illness? We are seeking volunteers to assist resident living in mental health group homes where isolation and loneliness can negatively impact their lives. Volunteers may visit, go for walks, provide fitness programs, teach arts and crafts, play board games, go to movies, or enjoy a common interest in the community.

We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate and inclusive volunteers

Your time and companionship can have a huge positive effect—and it's so rewarding!

  • Social companions for both men and women to go for walks and talk, or have coffee and conversation with a resident
  • Program leaders for group home activities such as playing cards or board games
  • Arts program assistants
  • Provide fitness programs or accompany a resident to the gym or activity centre
  • Therapeutic yoga teachers at various sites
  • Do you have a musical talent to share? Playing piano or guitar at a group home will brighten the lives of the residents

These volunteer positions can provide invaluable experience for students or persons interested in mental health, psychiatry and other health-related fields. 

Ongoing support and training is provided.
