HepCBC Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Society

Mission Statement

We are HepCBC, the Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Society! We are a non-profit organization run by and for people infected and/or affected by hepatitis C (HCV).

Our mission is to provide education, prevention and support to those living with hepatitis C (HCV).

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, an estimated 242,500 Canadians (maybe many more) are currently infected with hepatitis C. Did you know 30 to 70% of Canadians infected with hepatitis C don’t know that they are infected? Hepatitis C is a serious liver disease that people may live with for years, even decades, without any idea that they have it. Unfortunately, by the time symptoms appear, the liver may already have undergone significant damage.  Treatment can be extremely challenging to access, and some treatments have incredibly severe side effects. Help us to raise awareness and support those infected or affected by hepatitis C!

Living Edge Community

Mission Statement

Living Edge Community builds friendships and creates community among marginalized people and families by providing “food for the body and hope for the heart.”  Every Sunday we serve dinner to 100 – 200 guests in the gymnasium at CDI College on Kings Road. We begin with an inspirational  message followed by hot, nutritious meals served tableside by friendly volunteers with a passion for helping others. At our Marketplace program, held nearby every Tuesday and Thursday mornings, other dedicated volunteers organize donated fresh produce and other food items onto tables for selection by up to 150 people from the neighbourhood. We welcome everyone to join in, and to help us create smiles.

Rainbow Health Cooperative

Mission Statement

We are a community owned and operated - not for profit health co-operative. We are chartered under the laws of British Columbia. We are trans-centric and queer-inclusive.  Our focus is helping gender non-conforming / trans (gnc/t) people. Our principle service is to support gnc/t groups in all areas and build a common network between them that is owned and managed by them. Where no group exists, we help the community start one. We believe it vital to our wellbeing to:

  • Be informed about our health and our choices regarding it
  • Develop communities of self-care where we assist each other in our common wellness
  • Represent ourselves collectively with organizations that provide services to the gnc/t community.

We accomplish this by developing and sharing knowledge about informed service providers, caring for each other in peer support groups, and advocating on health issues through our membership in a common organization. Our co-op makes our voices one. We use government support when we can get it, but are never dependent on it

We have a seven member board who represent the five regional health regions, a First Nations board member, and a one elected separately by our groups. Each director is elected by Co-op members of the region or community they represent. The following information is about how our co-op groups work and explains how you get started to register a new group.
