Meals on Wheels
Overview
Our fabulous team of Volunteers deliver ready-made, nutritious meals to senior clients’ homes around Knox, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. When delivering meals, you will interact with seniors in the community who are grateful to see your smiley face and have a friendly chat. We are based at the Knox City Council precinct in Wantirna South.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering provides a sense of social connection within the community, as you are giving back and helping those in need. Delivering meals to seniors and vulnerable people is very rewarding, our Volunteers not only provide nutritious meals, but are also a smiling face for our clients to have a friendly chat to.
How does it work?
Volunteers are assigned a delivery round and deliver meals to 10-15 clients within a 2.5 hour window between 9:45am and 12:15pm from March to December. During the summer months of January and February hours are between 8:45 am to 11:15 am. Regular drivers will have a regular shift every fortnight depending on their days of availability. Casual drivers will be notified about a shift a week in advance at times at short notice to cover last minute vacancies.
To volunteer, you will need to:
- Be a friendly, team-orientated person
- Have your own car
- A current driver’s license
- Provide evidence of being fully vaccinated or having a valid medical exemption
- Receive a National Criminal History Check (via Knox City Council)
- Provide two referees for Knox to conduct reference checks
