Adopt-A-Cemetery

The Adopt-A-Cemetery program is a cooperative effort between the city, our residents, business owners, clubs, and organizations to keep our cemeteries clean and beautiful. Interested parties may adopt one or more cemeteries in Grand Prairie.

There are 15 cemeteries in Grand Prairie, many of which are home to historical markers from the Texas Historical Commission or the Grand Prairie Historical Commission. Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful assists in keeping some of these cemeteries beautiful through our Adopt-A-Cemetery Program. An Adopt-A-Cemetery event generally includes picking up litter and fallen branches.

Please join us to help keep our cemeteries litter free!

Adopt-A-Stream

The Trinity River and its tributaries run through Grand Prairie, providing habitat for our native wildlife and recreation through fishing and boating opportunities. Unfortunately, these streams can become polluted with litter. The majority of this litter is made up of plastic bottles, plastic bags, and Styrofoam. This litter is called 'floatables' because the majority of it floats on the surface of the water creating an eyesore for the community. You can do your part by not littering and by assisting with stream cleanups during the stream cleanup season which runs from mid-October through mid-March each year.

Kirby Creek Nature Center (Master Composters)

Kirby Creek Nature Center

The Kirby Creek Nature Center’s Exhibition Garden is a collaborative effort of the City of Grand Prairie and Grand Prairie ISD. Kids work with an onsite environmental science instructor to learn about nature. Every elementary student in the district comes out to the garden at least once a year.

The vegetable garden is open twice a week. Volunteers help with planting, weeding, making compost and with the general upkeep of the garden.

Volunteers are required to go through a master composter class to participate. Details of the class can be found here >>> Composting and Gardening. The 20 hours of volunteer time that is required for certification can be earned at this garden.
