Central Bayside Community Health Services

Primary Health (PH)

Central Bayside Community Health Services Physiotherapy Service welcomes volunteers to assist with various exercise groups such as aquatic physio, strength and balance, and gentle exercise. Volunteering is under the guidance of Physiotherapists and Allied Health Assistants. Physiotherapy group exercise programs are delivered from CBCHS sites at Parkdale, Chelsea, Clarinda & Bentleigh (aquatic program) and  programs operate from Monday to Friday.

To succeed as a Physiotherapy volunteer you will have a genuine empathy and understanding of the needs of older people, an ability to socialise, listen and communicate well with others, willingness to work as part of a team, ability to encourage the client’s independence where possible and relevant. You will also be willing to work with a physiotherapist to learn how to safely undertake manual handling that may be required as part of your participation.

Current volunteer opportunities

Hydrotherapy Volunteer

As a hydrotherapy volunteer you volunteer alongside a group of volunteers and are guided by a Physiotherapist or Allied Health Assistant. Exercising in water provides the benefits of exercise on dry land with less strain and stress on your body. For this reason, it can be a safer alternative for people with back problems or arthritis.

The hydrotherapy program is delivered at Connect Health and Community heated hydrotherapy pool in Bentleigh East.

The program takes place on Friday. A typical shift is 3 hours and we ask for at least a 6month commitment to volunteer.
