PROGRAM NAME: Community Van Service 

 

POSITION TITLE: EWR Volunteer Driver 

 

SCHEDULE: 8:00pm – 12:00am shifts (shifts are available 7 days/week) 

 

LOCATION: 2420 Montrose Ave, Abbotsford 

 

REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Senior Services  

POSITION SUMMARY

The EWR Volunteer Driver will support Abbotsford’s Extreme Weather Response during the Winter months. In pairs of two, volunteer drivers will transport community members to local extreme weather shelters with the use of a society vehicle. A $20.00 honorarium will be provided to each volunteer for the four-hour shift. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Work in coordination with another volunteer driver/co-pilot. 

  • Transport community members experiencing homelessness to local shelters/drop-in center. 

  • Receive directions and possible client locations from dispatch. 

  • Check-in with dispatch before/after completing a ride or at predetermined intervals.  

  • Record client statistics & ride information. 

  • Offer additional supportive services when applicable. 

  • Report questions or concerns to the Supervisor, Seniors Department. 

  • Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and protocols in the performance of duties. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Education and Certification: 

  • Provision and maintenance of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check. 

  • Provision and maintenance of a class 5 driver’s license & satisfactory driver’s abstract. 

  • Valid first aid certification is an asset. 

  • Naloxone certification is an asset. 

Experience: 

  • Experience supporting vulnerable populations or outreach experience is an asset. 

Knowledge and Skill Set 

  • Sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by community members experiencing homelessness. 

  • Well-developed interpersonal & communication skills. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Working conditions will include driving in the community and brief stops outside to offer rides to clients. Clients may occasionally become rude or unpleasant or be under the influence of substances. COVID-19 safety protocols are in place. Due to in-person service with vulnerable populations, it is recommended that volunteers have their complete COVID-19 vaccination.
