Phone seniors for their weekly grocery shopping list

Shop by Phone volunteers contact their assigned client(s) on a weekly basis to take their grocery order over the phone.  The grocery order form is emailed into Citizen Support Services and the shoppers take it from there!   

Shop weekly groceries for seniors

As a Shop By Phone shopper you will shop the groceries at Safeway on Willingdon and Hastings on a Tuesday from 8:00am to 11:30 am.

Accompany seniors shopping in Burnaby malls

As a volunteer Shopping Buddy you will meet up with a senior client and accompany them in the Metrotown Mall (on Thursdays, from 10:30am to 1:00pm; Brentwood or Lougheed Malls on Mondays, from 10:30am to 1:00pm.  All senior clients ride the HandyDart to the malls.

Drive seniors to a weekly social lunch program

As a volunteer Lunch Driver you will pick up a senior from their home and drive them to and from Confederation Community Centre in North Burnaby.  The program runs on Thursdays between 10:30-1:00 pm.  (Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage.) 

 

Drive seniors to an arranged bus-location for a monthly outing

As a volunteer Gadabouts Driver, you will pick a senior up from their home and bring them to and from Bill Copeland Centre where our bus outing will begin and conclude.  This takes place once a month on a Wednesday.  (Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage.) 

Assist seniors at social events

As a volunteer Host, you will greet, socialize and assist your assigned client(s).  The Host role is a volunteer position for both the Lunch Program and/or the  Gadabouts / Wheelers outings.  The lunch program takes place every Thursday, the Gadabouts outings take place once a month on a Wednesday.

Visit with isolated housebound seniors

Volunteer Visitors provide a friendly visit once a week with a Burnaby senior.  Visits are 1-1/2 hours and can be in the clients home, or out in the community.

Chat on the phone with isolated seniors

Volunteer Phoners talk to isolated seniors over the phone.

Assist Public Health Nurses at children's immunization clinics

Clinic volunteers assist Fraser Health at the Child Immunization Clinics.  Volunteers help with clinic set up, greet the families, weigh babies, hand out information, assist nurses by recording attendance and making appointments.

Support new moms in Baby Cuddle Program

Cuddle

Volunteers visit new mothers to provide compassionate support and a welcomed break by helping feed, soothe or play with baby.

 

 

Assist seniors in flu clinics

Seniors Flu Clinic volunteers assist nurses in conducting the seasonal flu vaccination for seniors.
