Need some ideas for your New Year's Resolution?

It's a fairly easy task to make New Year's resolutions – to promise again and again that you are going to hit the gym or learn a new language, but maybe it's time to explore something a little different!

Forget the early morning workout session or your 10 minutes with Duolingo, why not also explore the benefits of volunteering to kick off the new year?

We may be a little biased, but here are our top 5 reasons why we think you should make 2023 the year of the volunteer!

  • Volunteering can help you be physically and mentally active. Among the many benefits of volunteering is the feeling of well-being you can experience on a mental, physical, and emotional level.

  • You will develop new relationships, meet and connect with people who share hobbies and common interests. IHC’s volunteer friendship programme is about making a positive change in someone’s life and gaining a new friend in the process.

  • It's flexible. One of the most beneficial things about volunteering with IHC is that it is not time-specific. IHC offers a wide range of volunteer options so you can also choose the one that best suits your lifestyle and the volunteering style you are most comfortable with.

  • You will make a difference. You will witness first hand the positive impact that just turning up can have on someone's life. You will play a big part in the life of a person with an intellectual disability.

  • As a volunteer, you may experience a boost in self-esteem and self-confidence. The sense of accomplishment you get when you do something worthwhile and valuable is unparalleled.
