We run one-to-one therapeutic sessions that offer a safe space for children and young people to explore their emotions with an experienced counsellor. these sessions often take place in education settings however we are keen to offer online sessions if clients prefer this.
Our goal is to help children and young people to open up about their experiences and manage their emotions. We support them to make positive changes in their behaviour and help them on their recovery journey. Children and young people are also supported to build strong relationships with family, friends and teaching staff.
Our service is funded by the Big Lottery Community Fund.

* Eilean Siar Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
Action For Children's Eilean Siar Perinatal and Infant service
Blueprints are a welcoming team of Action for Children staff and volunteers who work with expectant mums, dads, families and their babies up till the child 3 years old. We work alongside parents to build their confidence, helping parents through pregnancy, birth and into infant stages.
We support and empower parents and families by giving them emotional support, parental support and help to restore a positive mental and emotional wellbeing. We provide emotional and practical support, and we aim to leave families with tools to move forward and manage their own unique situation. These tools will bolster parents' confidence to effectively nurture and interact with their child giving both the best chance of an improved future. The tools give them positive behaviour strategies, guidance on sleep patterns and healthy sleep, build routines and develop their understanding of child development. These all strengthen parent and child relationships to improve baby development and baby and mother attachment.

* Family Support Volunteers Central
Location: Tyne and Wear
When times are bad, families need extra support.
We use a system of whole-family support, providing an intensive relationship and support to contribute to the wellbeing of families we work with; this can stabalise families and enable them to overcome their difficulties and live happier lives together.
If families and relationships are strengthened, children who were previously on the edge of being placed in care are able to stay at home.
We work with each member of the family with all children in the household receive care and attention, and where necessary we work with other significant members of the household if we believe this will help.
Our work helps;
- Keep children out of care;
- Help parents towards employment;
- Reducing children's involvement in crime;
- Making more confident parents;
- Helping families to better mental health.

The service places an emphasis on a holistic ‘whole family’ approach that will result in long term, sustainable change.
Our work includes: Children Centre services, positive parenting courses, adult learning, support within schools and communities to engage young people with their education and work journey, and advice and guidance to young people who are not in education.
What Volunteers Say...
I was directed to Action for Children by a colleague on my course and after an initial meeting and attending the volunteer training session, with the Senior Volunteer Co-ordinator, I obtained a placement at the Buttercup Centre. The recruitment process was really simple and the support received from my supervisors and others at the centre is fantastic. If there is anything I am unsure of or the parents are looking for guidance, I know who to ask and where to signpost them.
