APEGA - Practice Review Board

When you volunteer with APEGA’s Professional Practice department, you play a key role in keeping the public safe. You’ll have a hand in creating and updating professional practice guidelines and standards for the engineering and geoscience professions, documents that ensure our permit holders and members meet the minimum standards of practice.

What we do

  • Conduct practice reviews of APEGA licensed professionals
  • Develop and maintain standards of competence for professional members and licensees
  • Administer the mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program
  • Review the competency of members who wish to change their practising status or reinstate their membership

What we’re looking for

  • Significant industry, regulatory, or public service experience—more than 10 years, ideally
  • Familiarity with the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act, regulations, APEGA practice standards and guidelines, and the Continuing Professional Development Program
  • Experience managing a team of at least five people and familiarity with group decision making, analytical thinking, and cooperation
  • Experience as a member of a regulatory board or committee

APEGA - Regulatory Affairs

The purpose of the APEGA/ASET Joint Board of Examiners is to review and evaluate the qualifications of Professional Technologist (Eng.) and Professional Technologist (Geo.) applicants for registration with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), pursuant to Part 8 of the Engineering and Geoscience Professions (EGP) Act and Part 1 of the Professional Technologists Regulation.

Safety Codes Council

APEGA seeks a professional member to serve as a representative on the Pressure Equipment Sub-Council of the SCC. This volunteer will provide the Safety Codes Council (SCC) Pressure Equipment Sub-Council with the perspective of an APEGA Professional Member who is conversant and active in working with pressure equipment and associated pressure codes. Additionally, the APEGA Professional Member will provide formalized continuous feedback loop between APEGA and the Safety Codes Pressure Equipment Sub-Council.

What we do

  • Serve as a conduit of information between the SCC and APEGA.
  • Attend 7-8 meetings annually. These virtual meetings are typically 1-3 hours in length.
  • Represent APEGA’s membership and their interests at a high standard with a focus on public safety
  • Ensure that the SCC Pressure Equipment Sub-Council fully understands the provisions of the EGP Act regarding the engineering and geoscience professions.

What we’re looking for

  • Significant industry experience with expertise in
    • Pressure Vessel and Heat Exchangers Design to Section VIII Div1 & Div2
    • Process and Pressure piping Design to ASME B31.1 and B31.1
    • Welding Procedures to ASME Section
  • Licensed with APEGA as a P. Eng.
