Volunteer with APEGA

APEGA - Professional Practice

When you volunteer with APEGA’s Professional Practice department, you play a key role in keeping the public safe. You’ll have a hand in creating and updating professional practice guidelines and standards for the engineering and geoscience professions, documents that ensure our permit holders and members meet the minimum standards of practice.

What we do

  • Conduct practice reviews of APEGA licensed professionals
  • Develop and maintain standards of competence for professional members and licensees
  • Administer the mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program
  • Review the competency of members who wish to change their practising status or reinstate their membership

What we’re looking for

  • Significant industry, regulatory, or public service experience—more than 10 years, ideally
  • Familiarity with the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act, regulations, APEGA practice standards and guidelines, and the Continuing Professional Development Program
  • Experience managing a team of at least five people and familiarity with group decision making, analytical thinking, and cooperation
  • Experience as a member of a regulatory board or committee

Open Opportunities:

Practice Review Board

As a committee member, you will:

  • Increase your appreciation and knowledge of the professions’ regulatory obligations and authorities
  • Advance the professions by sharing your knowledge and experience
  • Teach new, transferrable skills
  • Expand your business network
