APEGA - Board of Examiners
Registration Committee
The Opportunity |
In order to ensure that all professional Engineers and Geoscientists in Alberta conduct themselves according to the high-standards of education and practice that are vital for protecting the public and maintaining the reputation of the professions, APEGA’s Board of Examiners carefully reviews all applications for membership. Volunteers on this committee are subject matter experts in their area of practice and are tasked with reviewing applications in their field to ensure the requirements of registration are met by each applicant before registration is approved.
The Impact |
When one engineer or geoscientist conducts themselves unprofessionally, or endangers public safety, it threatens the reputation of the professions themselves. Damage to this reputation risks losing the privilege of self-regulation. By ensuring all professional members meet the rigorous standards of practice set by the Association, volunteers on this committee help to both protect the public from unskilled practice, but guarantee the continuation of Engineering and Geoscience as self-regulated professions.
Time Commitment |
Three-year (renewable) term 10 hours per month to review between 5 and 15 files. 1x monthly virtual meeting (1-hour duration). 2x full-day annual training sessions held in Edmonton or Calgary.
Volunteers attending from outside of the meeting area will be provided with accommodations and reimbursed for travel costs.

APEGA - Local Branches
Branch Executive Committee (2024)
The Opportunity |
APEGA is seeking applications for professional members and members-in-training to serve as volunteers on APEGA’s 10 local branch executive committees. These member-driven committees function as a conduit between APEGA’s Council, staff and the membership. Not only is it a great way to get a better understanding of APEGA’s role and regulatory responsibilities, it’s also fun! From locally-relevant workshops and lectures, to running engagement events like golf tournaments, participating on your local branch is a great way to get to know other professionals in your region and expand your network.
The Impact |
APEGA’s local branch executive committees form an integral part of APEGA operations. Volunteers on these committees have an opportunity to bring the perspective of local membership to APEGA and to serve as ambassadors for the association. By serving on your local branch executive, you can help enhance the profile of the professions in your community, make the association aware of local concerns and successes, and advance APEGA’s strategic initiatives at the local level.
