APEGA - Board of Examiners
Registration Committee
The Opportunity |
In order to ensure that all professional Engineers and Geoscientists in Alberta conduct themselves according to the high-standards of education and practice that are vital for protecting the public and maintaining the reputation of the professions, APEGA’s Board of Examiners carefully reviews all applications for membership. Volunteers on this committee are subject matter experts in their area of practice and are tasked with reviewing applications in their field to ensure the requirements of registration are met by each applicant before registration is approved.
Volunteers in the following practice areas are especially needed: Geoscience, Petroleum, Industrial, Electrical, Computer, Aeronautical, Biomedical, geomatics.
The Impact |
When one engineer or geoscientist conducts themselves unprofessionally, or endangers public safety, it threatens the reputation of the professions themselves. Damage to this reputation risks losing the privilege of self-regulation. By ensuring all professional members meet the rigorous standards of practice set by the Association, volunteers on this committee help to both protect the public from unskilled practice, but guarantee the continuation of Engineering and Geoscience as self-regulated professions.
Time Commitment |
Three-year (renewable) term 10 hours per month to review between 5 and 15 files. 1x monthly virtual meeting (1-hour duration). 2x full-day annual training sessions held in Edmonton or Calgary.
Volunteers attending from outside of the meeting area will be provided with accommodations and reimbursed for travel costs.

APEGA - Discipline and Enforcement
Discipline Committee
In order to protect public safety, APEGA members and permit holders are expected to practice engineering and geoscience skillfully, ethically and professionally.
Ensuring that members and permit holders are disciplined when they fail to meet these obligations is critical to APEGA's success as a regulator. Investigation and enforcement—followed by, when necessary, judgment based on a fair hearing of the facts—are requirements of the association in service to the public interest.
APEGA’s Discipline Committee is a critical piece of this disciplinary framework and the members of the committee adjudicate on allegations of unskilled practice and unprofessional conduct brought before it by the Investigative Committee following complaints against APEGA members, whether individuals and/or permit-holding entities.
