Retail Upcycling Volunteer Specialist


Our shops raise vital funds for our fight against homelessness and bad housing - and they’re powered by our volunteers!

Do you have a passion for renovation or reinvention? Are you creative and ready to give preloved furniture a new lease of life? Your background might be in professional furniture restoration or you could be a pro at upcycling. Whatever your skill in this area, or whether you’d simply like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you! Join our newly established upcycling team in our Erdington shop. We can’t wait to see what you can do!

Suggested Involvement: It’s up to you! We have volunteers who support for one hour a week and others who are with us 5 days a week.


Location: Shelter shop – Erdington  


Supervised by: Community Shop Manager/Assistant Manager


Why get involved with Shelter? Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. We campaign to make sure that one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.


Skills and Experiences Required: Some experience of upcycling previously would be beneficial, but what’s really important to us is that you want to be part of our teams and come ready to share your individual skills and experiences.

We do request that you are willing to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health & safety, equality & diversity, confidentiality & data protection.

Induction, Learning and Development: To enable you to take part in this opportunity Shelter will:


• Provide you with a Volunteer Handbook and all relevant Policies/Procedures

• Provide learning: including, Health & Safety, Data Protection and Safeguarding

• Provide an on the job induction

• Pay “out of pocket” expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy
