General Interests
Recreation Therapy Assistance
The Recreation Therapy Team always needs help with programs such as bus outings. You will help the Recreation Therapy Staff to help load residents onto the bus and will visit with them and highlight points of interest on the trip.
Cards and Board Games
If you are good at playing card games such as cribbage, rummy, etc. or you are interested in learning to play these games or you would just like to spend time playing board games with residents in the Long Term Care, we highly encourage you to seek out this volunteer opportunity!
Palliative Care Volunteer
This program requires additional training, however, it is such an asset for volunteers. We run shifts throughout the day and evening -no night shifts- to provide support to patients who are receiving end of life care and who do not have family/friend support and to give respite to the patient's family and/or friends.
You would be placed on a call list, but you are always welcome to decline based on your own schedule.
Friendly Visitor
You would have the opportunity to go around the hospital, Long Term Care, or into the community to provide companionship and reduce isolationism and loneliness. You would have the opportunity to visit with the client/patient/resident and/or help them with tasks that they may need support with.
For instance, a client may need help phoning loved ones, working their iPad, or may just want someone to keep them company for as little as half an hour per week.
Certified Feeding Assistance
This program is very valuable and supports residents, patients, clients, nurses, and health care aides in such an impactful way. This program has you go through some training to help you to help a client/patient/resident to eat their meal. Sometimes a traumatic incident or progressive health condition will prevent a person from being able to feed themselves independently; this program allows you to support them in this need in a respectful and appropriate manner.
Auxiliary
You can join the Ladies Auxiliary or log hours as an existing member. This group is very supportive of the hospital and Long Term Care and have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the purchasing new equipment and supplies for these facilities.
Entertainment
Play music for patients and residents. This is a very valuable program and can be engaged in individually or as a group.
Palliative Care Society
You can join the Palliative Care Society to help fundraise and support the Palliative Care rooms and resources within the facility. These facilities and resources are critical in our rural communities as it allows individuals to receive end of life care and have loved one support within (or near) their home community.
Religious Visitor
Needed in Long Term Care, in the hospital, and for Home Care clients within the community.
Spiritual Care
Pastors, priests, and other religious officials, Elders, and other spiritual support persons are always needed for residents in Long Term Care, patients living with chronic conditions, and those receiving end of life care.
Pet Visitation
This involves bringing in a beloved pet for patients, residents, or clients to interact with and receive emotional support from. This program is highly valued and will involve a vetting process which includes an assessment of the pet that ensures that it is calm, well-behaved, and gentle as well as a list of vaccinations to ensure that the pet is up to date and will not pose a risk of harm to the patient, resident, or client.
