General Interests

Retail Stockroom Volunteer - Adults

Would you like to volunteer in your local charity shop? This opportunity offers a variety of experiences from helping with stock, merchandising and other general activities.

About the role:

This role will be based at our Tŷ Hafan charity shop, working as part of a team of volunteers assisting the Shop Manager.  

Our shops are open all week from 9am-5pm and we are entirely grateful for any time you are able to offer; whether that's 2 hours a week, a half day each week or multiple days per week. 

What activities will you be involved in?

  • Sorting through stock donations and seasonal stock
  • Selecting good quality items to be sold on our shop floor
  • Preparing stock for sale by hanging, tagging and steaming clothing
  • Pricing and barcoding stock
  • Assisting in replenishing and rotating stock on the shop floor

What we are looking for:

No retail experience is necessary as full support and training will be provided. More important are honesty, reliability and commitment.  

Our volunteers all come from different backgrounds with varying skillsets, and each are equally vital to the work we do. We simply would not be able to continue without their diverse and valuable contributions.

Till & Customer Service Volunteer - Adults

About the role:

This role will be based at our Tŷ Hafan charity, working as part of a team of volunteers assisting the Shop Manager.

What activities will you be involved in?

  • Greet our customers and donors ensuring they feel welcomed and valued in supporting our shop
  • Deliver excellent standards of customer service with bags of enthusiasm for Tŷ Hafan
  • Serve customers on the till processing their items and cash accurately through our tills
  • When operating the till, give each customer the opportunity to enter Tŷ Hafan's weekly lottery draw
  • Listen and engage with our customer and supporters passing customer feedback to manager
  • Support in maintaining high standards of stock presentation on shop floor and raise any potential security risks to the shop management team
  • Assist the store manager in other ad-hoc tasks as needed
  • Be an excellent Ambassador for Tŷ Hafan

Volunteer Receptionist

Hafan are looking for friendly and experienced volunteers to join our team of receptionists. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a half day (1-5 PM) on either Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, or Wednesday AM (9-1)

Place of Volunteering: Hafan Hospice, Sully, Vale of Glamorgan.

Shift availability:

Monday pm

Wednesday all day

Thursday pm

Friday pm

Starting date: ASAP after satisfactory references and DBS check.

Application requirements: Over 18’s only for this role, Standard DBS check, two satisfactory references.

About the role:

This role will involve warmly welcoming patients and their families in receipt of our healthcare services as well as welcoming visitors and staff. The role includes a large element of administrative duties including answering telephone calls, redirecting queries to the correct departments and supporting the admin team in other various ad-hoc activities. A good level of I.T. competency and reception/admin type experience is necessary for this role. While the volunteer carrying out this role will be supervised by other members of the reception/admin team, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a certain level of autonomy will be expected.

What activities will you be involved in?

• Meeting and greeting
• Answering/redirecting calls
• Photocopying, scanning and filing
• Administrative activities as part of projects to support the team

What skills will I need?

• Approachable, trustworthy and adaptable
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as to own initiative
• Good level of I.T. competency in the use of software systems and Microsoft package
• Good communication skills
• Empathy
• Comfortable answering calls and speaking on the phone in a polite and friendly manner
• Previous reception/admin experience is preferred but not a necessary requirement
