Volunteer Admin/Receptionist

Ty Hafan: Dad's group tackling tragedy and mountains together - BBC News

We are looking for friendly and experienced volunteers to assist our facilities department. Your role will involve covering our Head Office front desk as well as supportin us with various admin tasks and projects as needed.


Ty Hafan, Hayes Road, Sully, CF64 5XX

Over 18's only

Flexible schedule - at least one morning or afternoon per week (Tuesday am/pm, Thursday am available)


About the role:

The location for this role is at our headquarters in Sully, Penarth.

You will support our facilities team across a wide range of activities, including administration tasks and reception cover. This opportunity would suit someone who is looking to gain valuable office-based experience or someone who has office-based experience and is willing to provide their time to support our charity.


What activities will you be involved in?

• Photocopying and printing documents

• Sorting and distributing mail

• Meeting and greeting visitors

• Reception cover

• Answering emails, phone calls and taking messages

• Any other appropriate ad-hoc administration tasks

No two days are the same!


What type of person are we looking for?

• Flexible with a willingness to learn

• Previous reception experience desirable but not mandatory

Community Engagement Volunteer

Make a real difference to children in Wales with a life-shortening condition by becoming a Community Engagement Volunteer today!


About the role:

Our Community Engagement Volunteers are an extension of our Fundraising team and act as champions for Tŷ Hafan within their local community. Supported by your local Regional Fundraiser, you will help us across a range of fundraising activities depending on how comfortable and confident you are. A full induction and ongoing training will be provided as well as opportunities to attend team meetings and social events throughout the year. We look forward to hearing from you.   

Over 18s Only

Time commitment can vary based on what you are able to do, but ideally, we would be looking for you to support for at least one day a month.


Potential activities you would be involved in (depending on preference/experience/skill)  

  • Helping to service collection boxes in your local area and identifying new venues for support  
  • Attending cheque presentations and giving talks about our work to local groups or schools in your area   
  • Support with volunteering at various bucket collections throughout the year.  
  • Support with volunteering at specific Tŷ Hafan events in your area  
  • Promote Tŷ Hafan’s fundraising campaigns and events to your own networks.

Crafts Volunteer

 

Are you creative, enthusiastic and have a passion for making things? Then we have the opportunity for you!



About the role:

You will be volunteering in our unique crafty workshop, assisting the Handcrafted project manager and other talented volunteers to make beautiful, high quality items to sell on our Handcrafted by Tŷ Hafan Etsy shop. By doing this, you directly help us to support children with life-shortening conditions and their families, with the funds raised from your creations.

Funds raised from sales go towards caring for the entire family. From complimentary therapy treatments for children, to respite care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.  

The role will be workshop/office based at our HQ in Sully. Ideally you will:

  • be able to commit to 3 hours a week
  • have sewing skill - hand or on a machine, embroidery
  • have a love of upcycling and craft
  • be available either a Monday, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 09.30 and 5pm;
  • have an interest in running Handcrafted pop-up shops at events in the local community (optional).

Gardening Volunteer (The Knap)

We are looking for enthusiastic and green fingered volunteers to help us maintain our new idyllic memorial garden in the Knap, Barry. 

About the volunteering role

This role will be based at our new plot of land in the Knap, Barry, assisting fellow volunteers with seasonal gardening tasks throughout the year. 

Minimum age requirement: 18

Location: Lakeside, The Knap, Barry, CF62 6YU 

Time commitment: Flexible around your availability

What activities could you be involved in?

  • Weeding

Volunteer Van Mate

Volunteer Retail Van Mate

Tŷ Hafan are looking for a Volunteer Van Mate to help our driver with stock deliveries and collections to and from our shops.

Our volunteers are an extremely valuable resource, and the Volunteer Van Mate is an essential part of the Retail team.

This is a physically demanding role, so a level of good fitness is required. 


          Minimum age requirement: 18

        • Location: Pick up and drop off from our Head Office in Sully

        • Hours: Ideally, you'll be able to commit to a minimum of one full or half day per week


The purpose of this role

We are looking for a Volunteer Van Mate to join our successful team, assisting our paid Retail van driver to move stock donations around our network of 18 shops. 


Activities you will be involved in:

  • Lifting & moving of stock donations from/to our shops & the Retail van – this includes bags and boxes of clothing, books, toys and bric a brac
  • Helping to load the van safely
  • Helping our shop teams to receive and store the donations safely in their stock rooms

What skills will I need?

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • A good level of fitness is necessary as lifting is required

Information on training provided

  • No previous experience is necessary as full training, including manual handling, will be given
  • Regular volunteer meetings

About the role:

As a charity, Tŷ Hafan runs many fundraising events throughout the year and we are also represented at wider fundraising events across our communities. These events include our very own Family Fun Day, sporting events, community bucket collections in exciting venues, and much more.

Every year, thousands of people participate in these events, but we need people behind the scenes to make them a success! That’s where you come in..

You’ll support us in raising vital funds for children with life-shortening conditions, and their families, by volunteering at an event whether on a one-off or regular basis. Either way, you’ll be making a huge difference.

  • Inspire, cheer on and motivate event participants

  • Using the hospice washing and drying machines to ensure we have a fresh supply of bedding and blankets for our children and families
  • Assisting with changing of bed linen.
  • Linen inventory check.
  • Iron bedding on our roller machine 
  • Maintenace of the laundry machines such as removing lint from the dryer
  • Assiting with placing fresh laundry in linen cupboards and keeping the spaces tidy

Gardening Volunteer (Hospice)

We are looking for enthusiastic and green fingered volunteers to help us maintain our beautiful gardens surrounding our hospice and head office buildings. 

The gardens are a special place for the children and families to spend time when staying at the hospice. They are a place where memories are not only made, but reflected upon. Our current team of fantastic, friendly Volunteer Gardeners have taken the gardens from rags to riches, and now we need your help to maintain them!

Minimum age requirement: 18

About the role

This role will be based at Tŷ Hafan’s Hospice in Sully, Penarth, working alongside our current team of gardeners and assisting our facilities team with seasonal gardening tasks throughout the year. Some tasks are physically demanding and require a level of manual dexterity.

Due to the nature of the activities, we are looking for volunteers with experience in gardening, or hold gardening as a hobby.

What activities would you be involved in?

  • Pruning
  • Weeding
  • Planting

Maintenance Volunteers and Grounds People provide vital assistance, helping us to maintain our Hospice and Head Office buildings and surrounding grounds, internally and externally, for the benefit of the children and families who utilize our services.

The purpose of this role

This role will be based at Tŷ Hafan’s Children's Hospice in Sully, assisting the facilities team with maintenance related tasks. 


What activities will you be involved in?

*Certain tasks will suit volunteers’ likes, dislikes and strengths and this will be taken into account when allocating tasks.

Maintenance Volunteer:

• Internal and external painting

• Clearing footpaths

• Minor cosmetic repairs

• Water fountain maintenance

• Assisting our team of volunteer gardeners with tasks such as pruning and weeding

• Supporting any other general D.I.Y and maintenance tasks

Grounds Person

Litter pick

External sweeping of all external areas.

Clearing of leaves and debris, to all external areas

Removing of Moss to paths

Removing of weeds.

Washing to external areas around Head Office.

Jet washing external areas

Cleaning of bin stores.

Gritting of paths.

Minor maintenance repairs.

Good food is central to the care we provide, from catering for specialist dietary needs in the everyday, to special occasions such as our annual memorial event.

About the role:

This role will be based at the Ty Hafan Hospice in Sully, assisting our friendly team of kitchen staff.

The kitchen is situated immediately off the main lounge, the central hub of the Hospice, where families come together to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our talented head chef and his team.

For our children and their families, mealtimes provide comfort, a sense of normality and a chance to socialise. Without the stress of shopping, planning and clearing up - we take the pressure off.

This role will take place at your local Tŷ Hafan charity shop, working as part of a team of volunteers assisting the Shop Manager.

Retail Maintenance Volunteer

Maintenance Volunteers provide vital assistance in helping us to maintain our Retail buildings and to ensure our shops are well presented and inviting, as well as being a safe and welcoming work environment for our staff and retail volunteers.


• Minimum age requirement: 18

• Location: Shops across South & West Wales (using company vehicle)

• Hours: Flexible (min 4 per week, Mon-Fri)


 

The purpose of this role

  • To assist the Retail team with maintenance related tasks 

 


Activities you will be involved in:

  • Internal painting
  • Changing lightbulbs
  • Minor cosmetic repairs
  • Supporting with any other general D.I.Y and maintenance tasks as needed

We understand that not all tasks will suit all volunteers, so your likes, dislikes, strengths and preferences will be considered when allocating tasks. All tasks will be issued under instruction from the Shop Support Team with transport, materials and access to tools provided.


What skills will I need?

  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to work safely and to not endanger yourself or others, maintaining a safe working environment at all times
  • Experience or a keen interest in DIY/maintenance related tasks (professional or hobby)
