General Interests

Volunteer Retail Assistant - Under 18

Are you over the age of 16 and would love the opportunity to volunteer in your local community? This role offers a variety of different experiences, including learning how to merchandise and price items, interacting with individuals from all different backgrounds, and opportunities for work experience/skills growth.

About the role:                                                                                 

This role will be based at our Tŷ Hafan charity shop, working as part of a team of volunteers assisting the Shop Manager.

What activities would you be involved in?

  • Provide great customer service with bags of enthusiasm for Tŷ Hafan
  • Sort and prepare stock for the shop floor
  • Keep the shelves and displays fresh and in fashion by merchandising in accordance with seasonal styles
  • Use product knowledge to identify the good sellers and price items accordingly

Information on training provided:

No retail experience is necessary as full training will be given, although previous knowledge of merchandising, customer service, cash handling, up-selling and fashion trends would be useful. More important are honesty, reliability and commitment.

Retail Stockroom Volunteer - Adults

Would you like to volunteer in your local charity shop? This opportunity offers a variety of experiences from helping with stock, merchandising and other general activities.

About the role:

This role will be based at our Tŷ Hafan charity shop, working as part of a team of volunteers assisting the Shop Manager.  

Our shops are open all week from 9am-5pm and we are entirely grateful for any time you are able to offer; whether that's 2 hours a week, a half day each week or multiple days per week. 

What activities will you be involved in?

  • Sorting through stock donations and seasonal stock
  • Selecting good quality items to be sold on our shop floor
  • Preparing stock for sale by hanging, tagging and steaming clothing
  • Pricing and barcoding stock
  • Assisting in replenishing and rotating stock on the shop floor

Volunteer Kitchen Support

Good food is central to the care we provide, from catering for specialist dietary needs in the everyday, to special occasions such as our annual memorial event.

About the role:

This role will be based at the Ty Hafan Hospice in Sully, assisting our friendly team of kitchen staff.

The kitchen is situated immediately off the main lounge, the central hub of the Hospice, where families come together to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our talented head chef Jayne, and the rest of the team, Dave and Julia.

For our children and their families, mealtimes provide comfort, a sense of normality and a chance to socialise. Without the stress of shopping, planning and clearing up - we take the pressure off.

Crafts Volunteer

Are you creative, enthusiastic and have a passion for making things? Then we have the opportunity for you!

Hafan are looking for crafty volunteers to join our Handcrafted by  Hafan project.

 

About the role: 

 

You will be volunteering in our crafty workshop, assisting the Handcrafted project manager and fellow volunteers to create high quality items which will be sold on our Handcrafted by Hafan Etsy shop. This way, you help to raise vital funds for the children and families in our care. 

 

The role will be workshop/office based at our workshop based in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, with opportunities to volunteer from home.  

 

We are looking for people with a keen interest in:

  • Sewing
  • General crafting
  • Knitting
  • Jewellery making
  • Crochet
  • Any other crafting hobby or skill you have!

Volunteer Van Mate

 

 

Do you have one half or full day per week to spare to volunteer for a worthwhile, local cause? 

 

Tŷ Hafan are looking for a Volunteer Van Mate to help our driver with furniture collections and deliveries. Our volunteers are an extremely valuable resource, and Volunteer Van Mate's are an essential part of the retail team.

Talbot Green / Tonyrefail

Llanelli

Vale of Glamorgan

Porthcawl / Bridgend

 

About the role: 

We are looking for a Volunteer Van Mate to join our successful team to help deliver and collect furniture. You will help our paid van driver in the lifting and moving of furniture items. 

 

This is a physically demanding role so a level of good fitness is required. 

 

General time commitment per week / month:
 
Collections/Deliveries will be on set day(s), ideally, you'll be able to commit to one full or half day per week, this is flexible. 

 

What activities would you be involved in?

  • Assisting our van driver with loading and unloading the delivery van. 
  • Assisting our van driver with the collection of furniture from the Llanelli area and with delivering bought furniture from the shop to our supporter's homes 
  • Assisting the van driver to ensure any collected donations are fit for sale and have any required safety labels. 
  • Assisting the van driver in ensuring as many collected donations as possible are Gift Aided 
  • Always maintain a high standard of customer service and strict control of the security of goods collected, transported and delivered.

Information on training provided:
 
No previous experience is necessary as full training, including manual handling, will be given. A good level of fitness is necessary as lifting is required.

Volunteer Receptionist

Hafan are looking for friendly and experienced volunteers to join our team of receptionists. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a half day (1-5 PM) on either Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, or Wednesday AM (9-1)

Place of Volunteering: Hafan Hospice, Sully, Vale of Glamorgan.

Shift availability:

Monday pm

Wednesday all day

Thursday pm

Friday pm

Starting date: ASAP after satisfactory references and DBS check.

Application requirements: Over 18’s only for this role, Standard DBS check, two satisfactory references.

About the role:

This role will involve warmly welcoming patients and their families in receipt of our healthcare services as well as welcoming visitors and staff. The role includes a large element of administrative duties including answering telephone calls, redirecting queries to the correct departments and supporting the admin team in other various ad-hoc activities. A good level of I.T. competency and reception/admin type experience is necessary for this role. While the volunteer carrying out this role will be supervised by other members of the reception/admin team, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a certain level of autonomy will be expected.

What activities will you be involved in?

• Meeting and greeting
• Answering/redirecting calls
• Photocopying, scanning and filing
• Administrative activities as part of projects to support the team

What skills will I need?

• Approachable, trustworthy and adaptable
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as to own initiative
• Good level of I.T. competency in the use of software systems and Microsoft package
• Good communication skills
• Empathy
• Comfortable answering calls and speaking on the phone in a polite and friendly manner
• Previous reception/admin experience is preferred but not a necessary requirement
