Our current Volunteer Vacancies are outlined below. There is a huge range of ways you can volunteer for Tŷ Hafan, and it really doesn’t matter how much time you give. Every hour is precious and gratefully received.

Community Engagement Volunteer

Make a real difference to children in Wales with a life-shortening condition by becoming a Community Engagement Volunteer today!

Our Community Engagement Volunteers are an extension of our Fundraising team and act as champions for Tŷ Hafan within their local community.

They are passionate about their cause and eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Supported by your local Regional Fundraiser, you will help us with various fundraising activities depending on your skills and confidence.

You will receive a full induction and ongoing training, as well as opportunities to meet other volunteers and have fun throughout the year.

Considerations:

Age requirement: 18+

Time commitment: Varied based on what you are able to do, but ideally, we would be looking for you to support for at least one day a month

Location: Across your local area


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

• Collecting and servicing donation boxes in your area and finding new places to place them

• Attending cheque presentations and giving talks about our work to local groups or schools

• Helping out at bucket collections and other fundraising events throughout the year

• Spreading the word about Tŷ Hafan's campaigns and events to your friends, family and contacts 

• Sharing your passion for what we do with your community


To be a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you need to have a good knowledge of your local area and potential supporters, and a genuine enthusiasm for our cause. It would also be helpful if you are:

• Able to speak Welsh (not essential for all volunteers, but we welcome Welsh speakers)

• Confident and comfortable speaking in public about what we do

• Familiar with using social media


Here's what you can expect from our training program:

• A comprehensive induction by a member of the Fundraising team, including a tour of the hospice to see the impact of your support

• An annual training day at the hospice with tips on delivering talks, updates on policies and procedures, and a celebration of your achievements 

• Regular contact from your Regional Fundraiser and invitations to team meetings and social events

• GDPR training on how to handle donations and cash safely and securely

• Exclusive access to some of our events as our guest;

• Reimbursement for travel expenses

Crafts Volunteer

Are you creative, enthusiastic and have a passion for making things? Then join us as a volunteer in our amazing crafty workshop!

In this role, you will work with our talented team made up of the Handcrafted project manager and other multi-skilled volunteers to create beautiful, high quality items for our Handcrafted by Tŷ Hafan Etsy shop.

By doing this, you will help us raise funds to support children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

The funds you help us raise will go towards providing care and support for the whole family. This includes therapy treatments for children, respite care for families, and activities and experiences for siblings.


Conditions:

Age requirement: 18+

Location: At our Head Office in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan

Time commitment: Flexible - Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays between 09.30 and 5pm


We are looking for volunteers who:

•  Can commit to at least 3 hours a week

•  Have sewing skills - hand or machine, embroidery

•  Have a passion for upcycling and craft

•  Are interested in running Handcrafted pop-up shops at events in the local community (optional).

Gardening Volunteer (The Knap)

Do you love gardening and want to make a difference in your community? Join us as a volunteer gardener at our beautiful memorial flower garden in the Knap, Barry.

Tŷ Hafan are working in partnership with The Vale of Glamorgan Council to create a memorial flower garden at The Knap in Barry.

The garden serves as a peaceful and reflective space for the local community to honour the memory of those who have passed away, and to remember loved ones, whether connected directly to the hospice or not.   

You will be part of a friendly team of volunteers who take care of our new plot of land in the Knap, Barry. You will help with seasonal gardening tasks throughout the year. 


Considerations:

Minimum age requirement: 18

Location: Lakeside, The Knap, Barry, CF62 6YU 

Time commitment: Flexible around your availability

If you want to help out without being tied to a schedule, this is a perfect "micro-volunteering" option for you. You can join in whenever you have some free time and make a difference.


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

•  Weeding

•  Planting

•  Watering

•  General garden maintenance

•  Keeping grounds clean, tidy and presentable

•  Using small gardening tools

•  A warm and friendly disposition

•  The ability to work as part of a team and independently

•  The ability to work safely and to not endanger yourself or others and maintain a safe working environment

Volunteer Van Mate

Are you looking for a rewarding way to support your community? Why not join us as a Volunteer Van Mate and help us deliver and collect stock donations to and from our shops?

Volunteers are the heart of our Retail team, and as a Volunteer Van Mate, you will play a vital role in helping us raise funds for our cause.

You will work alongside our paid retail van driver to transport stock donations across our network of local shops.

This role requires some physical effort, so you will need to be fit and healthy. 


Considerations:

Minimum age requirement: 18

Location: Pick up and drop off from our Head Office in Sully

Hours: Ideally, you'll be able to commit to a minimum of one full or half day per week


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

•  Lifting & moving of stock donations from/to our shops & the Retail van – this includes bags and boxes of clothing, books, toys and bric a brac

•  Helping to load the van safely

•  Helping our shop teams to receive and store the donations safely in their stock rooms


What skills will you need?

•  The ability to work as part of a team

•  The ability to follow instructions

•  A good level of fitness is necessary as lifting is required


Here's what you can expect from our training program:

•  A comprehensive induction will be provided

•  No previous experience is necessary as full training, including manual handling and other relevant modules will be provided

•  Regular volunteer meetings and support from the Retail Management team

Events Volunteer

Do you love meeting new people and making a difference in your community? Are you looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend your time or use your skills and talents? If so, you might be the perfect person for our Events Volunteer Role!

As a charity, Tŷ Hafan organizes many fundraising events throughout the year and we are also represented at wider fundraising events across our communities.

These events include our very own Family Fun Day, sporting events, community bucket collections in exciting venues, and much more.

These events attract thousands of people who want to support our cause, but we also need people who can help us behind the scenes to make them happen! That's where you come in..

By volunteering at an event, whether as a one-off or more regularly, you'll help us raise essential funds for children with life-shortening conditions and their families. You'll be making a huge difference.


Considerations:

Age Limit: 16+ (Under 18s to be accompanied by an adult)

Time Commitment: One off, long term, flexible, hours vary with each event


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

•  Event set up

•  Event registration

•  Bag drop/stall cover

•  Encourage, cheer on and motivate event participants

Marshalling

•  Handing out medals

•  Bucket collections

•  Support staff to deliver a safe event


What skills will you need?  

This role is perfect for someone who is friendly, approachable, enthusiastic and works well as part of a team.

The Tŷ Hafan team will give you all the information you need and help you get ready for the event. You will also receive a warm welcome and ongoing support on the day of the event.

Volunteer Administrator/Receptionist

We are looking for friendly and experienced volunteers to join our team. You'll be in charge of our Head Office front desk and help us with various admin tasks and projects as needed.

You will support our wider teams with a variety of activities, including administration tasks and reception cover.

This opportunity is perfect for someone who wants to gain valuable office-based experience or someone who has office-based experience and is happy to donate their time to support our charity.

Depending on the availability of the teams, you have the option to select the department where you would like to offer your volunteer services. Alternatively, you can also collaborate with various teams on diverse projects.


Considerations:

Location: Ty Hafan, Hayes Road, Sully, CF64 5XX

Age requirement: 18+

Schedule: Flexible, Monday-Friday


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

• Photocopying and printing documents

• Sorting and distributing mail

• Welcoming visitors

• Reception cover

• Responding to emails, phone calls and taking messages

• Project work

• Any other suitable ad-hoc administration tasks
