Our current Volunteer roles are outlined below. There is a huge range of ways you can volunteer for Tŷ Hafan, and it really doesn’t matter how much time you give. Every hour is precious and gratefully received.

If you are interested in a particular role, but would like to try it out before you commit to applying, please email volunteering@tyhafan.org or call 02920 532 254. We'll set up a trial or shadowing opportunity for you.

Overseas Applications

Please note, while we at Tŷ Hafan pride ourselves on being inclusive of all individuals who wish to volunteer, we are not currently a sponsor license holder so we are not able to support any overseas VISA applications.

Fundraising Volunteer

Make a real difference to children in Wales with a life-shortening condition by becoming a Fundraising Volunteer today!

As a Fundraising Volunteer you’ll assist with fundraising events and collections throughout the year, as and when you can.

You’ll engage with members of the public and use your knowledge of your local area to promote the work of Tŷ Hafan.

By becoming a fundraising volunteer, you'll be helping us to ensure that no family in Wales lives their child's short life, alone.


Considerations:

Age requirement: 16+ (If under 18 you will be required to provide parental permission)

Location: Throughout South/West Wales

Commitment: Flexible

Background checks: We will ask you to provide us with the details of two referees. A DBS check may be required for roles with more responsibility.

Activities include:

• Take part in our bucket collections throughout the year in town/city centres, supermarkets, shopping centres and other venues

• Use your knowledge of your local area to place collection tins in your community, visiting the premises on a regular basis and count and bank the money on our behalf

• You will promote Tŷ Hafan fundraising events and campaigns in your community (for example Tea for Tŷ Hafan) and encourage others to register to hold their own tea party

•You will encourage local community groups and organisations to support and fundraise for Tŷ Hafan, using your existing networks and knowledge of your community

• You will work closely with the Regional Fundraiser to maximise all opportunities within your area.

Volunteer Administrator/Receptionist

Are you friendly, enthusiastic, and ready to make a difference? 
We're on the lookout for volunteers to join our Reception Team!

As a reception/admin volunteer, you'll be the welcoming face of Tŷ Hafan, tackling a variety of exciting admin tasks and projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable office experience or to share your existing skills, all whilst supporting an important cause.

Considerations:

Location: Ty Hafan Children's Hospice, Hayes Road, Sully, CF64 5XX

Hours: Our office opening hours are 8:30am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Our facilities team will discuss what shifts we have available.

Age requirement: 18+

Background checks: we will ask you to provide us with 2 references and a basic DBS check is required for this role.

This role is perfect for someone who is friendly, approachable, enthusiastic and works well as part of a team.

Confidence speaking on the phone and using the pc/laptop are required for this role.


Activities include:

• Photocopying and printing documents;
• Supporting with reception cover and be the first point of contact for visitors;
• Respond to emails and answering calls;
• Ad-hoc project work/administration tasks.

Retail Roles

Retail Maintenance Volunteer

Maintenance Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping our retail buildings in top condition. They help ensure our shops are attractive and inviting, creating a safe and welcoming environment for both our staff and volunteers.

This opportunity is a great way to utilise existing skills, develop new ones and enjoy yourself at the same time.

Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from medical care and therapeutic services for children, to emotional and practical care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.



Considerations:

Age requirements: 21+

Locations: shop areas listed in full role description below

Time commitment: Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare. Shifts will be discussed during your informal chat.

Background checks: 2 references, Basic DBS, Driving License (points) Check.



Activities include:

• Minor cosmetic repairs;
• Painting, carpentry and other DIY jobs;
• Supporting with any other general maintenance tasks as needed.



Skills you will need:

• Attention to detail;
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
• Ability to work safely and to not endanger yourself or others, maintaining a safe working environment at all times;
• Experience in a relevant trade is desirable but not essential as full training will be given;
• Be fit & healthy.
