Upcoming Events:

Can you give an hour or two in your local supermarket to help us reach our target of raising £75,000 this Christmas to support our bereavement services? 
We will be in various supermarkets over the month of October collecting in store, so if you can give an hour to help, then please let us know!  Alternatively if you'd like to organise your own collection then we can support you with buckets, stickers and t-shirts.  We currently need help at the following stores/dates:
 
  • Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 October - Morrisons Bargoed & Morrisons Newport Road
  • Saturday 12 October - Morrisons Ebbw Vale
  • Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 October - Morrisons Cardiff Bay & Morrisons Barry

Gift Wrapping at Cwmbran Shopping Centre

Every Wednesday and Saturday throughout December, we will be gift wrapping presents for members of the public in exchange for donations at the Cwmbran Shopping Centre.  Are you an elf-taught gift wrapper?  Can you make anything look tree-mendous?  Then we need you!  If you can help then let us know and we'll sign you up and give you a round of Santa-plaus (sorry last one!)

Trago Mills, Merthyr Tydfil
 
Ty Hafan have started working with Trago Mills and we have been offered an opportunity as part of the partnership to bucket collect on the 25th November and the 8th and 14th of December.
 
We are looking for several volunteers to help collect funds in the day, either in front of their story board or behind the tills.

Community Champion

Make a real difference to children in Wales with a life-shortening condition by becoming a Community Champion today!

Our Community Champions are an extension of our Fundraising team and act as representatives of Tŷ Hafan within their local community.

They are passionate about their cause and eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Supported by your local Regional Fundraiser, you will help us with various fundraising activities depending on your skills and confidence.

You will receive a full induction and ongoing training, as well as opportunities to meet other volunteers and have fun throughout the year.

Considerations:

Age requirement: 18+

Time commitment: Varied based on what you are able to do, but ideally, we would be looking for you to support for at least one day a month

Location: Across your local area


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

• Collecting and servicing donation boxes in your area and finding new places to place them

• Attending cheque presentations and giving talks about our work to local groups or schools

• Helping out at bucket collections and other fundraising events throughout the year

• Spreading the word about Tŷ Hafan's campaigns and events to your friends, family and contacts 

• Sharing your passion for what we do with your community


 At Tŷ Hafan our people values are working together, demonstrating compassion, providing excellent service and taking ownership. We expect all colleagues and volunteers to behave with high levels of integrity and to represent our values as a core part of their role. 

To be a Community Champion, you need to have a good knowledge of your local area and potential supporters, and a genuine enthusiasm for our cause. It would also be helpful if you are:

• Able to speak Welsh (not essential for all volunteers, but we welcome Welsh speakers)

• Confident and comfortable speaking in public about what we do

• Familiar with using social media


Here's what you can expect from our training programme:

• A comprehensive induction by a member of the Fundraising team, including a tour of the hospice to see the impact of your support

• An annual training day at the hospice with tips on delivering talks, updates on policies and procedures, and a celebration of your achievements 

• Regular contact from your Regional Fundraiser and invitations to team meetings and social events

• GDPR training on how to handle donations and cash safely and securely

• Exclusive access to some of our events as our guest;

• Reimbursement for travel expenses

Events Volunteer

Do you love meeting new people and making a difference in your community? Are you looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend your time or use your skills and talents? If so, you might be the perfect person for our Events Volunteer Role!

As a charity, Tŷ Hafan organizes many fundraising events throughout the year and we are also represented at wider fundraising events across our communities.

These events include our very own Family Fun Day, sporting events, community bucket collections in exciting venues, and much more.

These events attract thousands of people who want to support our cause, but we also need people who can help us behind the scenes to make them happen! That's where you come in..

By volunteering at an event, whether as a one-off or more regularly, you'll help us raise essential funds for children with life-shortening conditions and their families. You'll be making a huge difference.

General Interests

Gardening Volunteer (Hospice)

Do you love gardening and making a difference in your community? If so, you might be the perfect fit for our Volunteer Gardener role!

As a Volunteer Gardener, you will help maintain and beautify our Hospice gardens, where we provide palliative care and support for children with life-shortening conditions. Gardening is not only a rewarding hobby, but also a therapeutic activity that can bring joy and comfort to those who need it the most. Join our team of compassionate and dedicated volunteers today, and help us create a green oasis for our hospice community.

Considerations:

Minimum age requirement: 18

Due to the nature of the activities and current projects, we are looking for volunteers with skills, in depth knowledge and experience in gardening, either as a profession or as a hobby. 

Our Garden volunteers help out on a Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday each week

Occasional weekend volunteering

Occasional attendance fundraising events for tools and plants (optional)


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

General garden maintenance

Keeping grounds clean, tidy and presentable

Project work such as our forest project

Using small gardening tools or larger equipment such as a leaf blower

Other ad-hoc tasks as and when required seasonally

We are looking for volunteers with:

Gardening experience, either as a profession or a hobby

A sincere understanding of the sensitive nature of volunteering in a Hospice setting


Training:

You will receive a comprehensive introduction to our organisation and your role.

Mandatory e-learning to include Safeguarding, Data Protection, Keeping Yourself Safe and Looking After Others.

In-person training to include Fire Safety.

Ad-hoc role specific training as required.

All volunteers must maintain their mandatory training to continue in their role.

The facilities and volunteering teams will be on hand to assist you with any queries or concerns.

Volunteer Retail Assistant - Under 18

We are Tŷ Hafan.

We provide comfort, care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their loved ones.

Too many families in Wales are struggling through the fear, exhaustion and uncertainty that comes with caring for a child whose life will be short.

At the moment we only have enough money to support 10% of the families who need us.

By volunteering in our shops, you can help us to reach every family who needs us.


About the role:

As a retail volunteer, you will help us sort, price and display donated items in our charity shop. You will also assist with keeping the stockroom organised and tidy.

Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare; whether it's a few hours a week, a half day each week or several days per week.

This opportunity is a great way to develop new skills and enjoy yourself at the same time.

Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from medical care and therapeutic services for children, to emotional and practical care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.

By volunteering in our shops, you directly help us to raise essential funds for the children and families who need us.

About Tŷ Hafan:

Tŷ Hafan is a leading Welsh children's charity, with our hospice and headquarters based in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan.

Tracy Jones, Director of Family Wellbeing and Outreach Services for Tŷ Hafan, said: “When families are told that their child’s life is going to be short, their whole world changes. It changes again when they realise they must consider end of life care, and again, when they finally lose their child.

“Tŷ Hafan is there to provide endless support to families from the moment their world changes. Through life, death and beyond.

“We can’t give a family more time, but Tŷ Hafan can make sure those families who find themselves facing a nightmare such as those faced by families in our care, have the time and the support they need, when they need it.”

Abergavenny - Till & Customer Service Volunteer

We are Tŷ Hafan.

We provide comfort, care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their loved ones.

At the moment we only have enough money and resources to support 10% of the families who need us.

By volunteering in our shops, you can help us to reach every family who needs us.


As a Till & Customer Service Volunteer at our Abergavenny shop, you will assist our shop managers with things such as serving, greeting and styling customers, styling our formal wear section and keeping the shop organised.

Abergavenny is one of our newer shops. The shop has a beautiful fit, which showcases the quirky and unusual donations we get.

The shop also has a formalwear and bridal room, famous in the town and surrounding areas, offering another unique shopping experience for our customers and supporters.

Anthea and Nicola and their wonderful team of volunteers, specialise in providing fantastic customer service and make sure every customer leaves with a smile (as well as a purchase!)

The shop is open 9am-4:45pm Monday-Saturday and we appreciate any time you can spare.

Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from therapeutic services for children, to emotional and practical care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.

Encouraging customers to sign up for Gift Aid, which increases the value of their donations;

• Selling and processing our raffle/lottery tickets;

• Acting as an ambassador for Tŷ Hafan, promoting our Big Ambition within your local community.

Nicola and Sian and their wonderful team of volunteers, specialise in providing fantastic customer service and make sure every customer leaves with a smile (as well as a purchase!)

As a Stockroom Volunteer in our Barry High Street shop, you will help us sort, price and display donated items. You will also assist with keeping the stockroom organised and tidy.

Barry High Street is one of our longest standing shops. It is also one of our smallest shops, but boasts incredible volumes of donations from our supporters.

Shop manager Louise is supported by a fantastic team of volunteers who work incredibly hard to turn over the high volumes of stock.

The shop is open 9am-4:45pm Monday-Saturday and we appreciate any time you can spare.

Cardigan is a long narrow shop on Cardigan's high street. This space is put to great use with stock displayed on beautiful handmade display pieces, made by the shop team.

There's also a haberdashery section with fat quarters, button bundles and more, created from stock that would usually be unsaleable.

Diane, our shop manager, has been with us from the start and used to fundraise along with family members for Tŷ Hafan before the shop opened.

Amy is a jewellery expert and generates thousands each year because of her specialist knowledge. 

The shop is open 9am-4:45pm Monday-Saturday and we appreciate any time you can spare.

It is one of our two outlet-style shops, famous in the town for its £1 section, where customers can snag an entire outfit for less than a fiver!

This stock is clearance stock from our other shops and is given a final opportunity in Neath to sell to maximise the most from all our donations.

Hannah and Sandra lead a team of energetic volunteers, and between them, turnover a huge amount of stock each week.

They make sure that customers have the best shopping experience and leave with a smile on their face. 

The shop is open 9am-4:45pm Monday-Saturday and we appreciate any time you can spare.

Commitment: Ideally, we would be looking for your support for at least 2 hours a week.

Current available shifts: Monday PM, Wednesday PM, Saturday PM


As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities, depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

•  Providing a warm and friendly welcome to all customers entering the shop;

•  Delivering excellent customer service to ensure a pleasant shopping experience;

•  Handling cash transactions and operating the till with accuracy;

Encouraging customers to sign up for Gift Aid, which increases the value of their donations;

• Selling and processing our raffle/lottery tickets;

• Acting as an ambassador for Tŷ Hafan, promoting our Big Ambition within your local community.

• A comprehensive training and induction tailored to volunteering in our shops;

• Learn how to assist customers and answer queries;

• Learn how charity shops operate and gain valuable retail knowledge.
