Ronald McDonald House - Parkville
Join Our RMHC Parkville Volunteer Team
Located at 22 Gatehouse Street, Parkville, VIC, 3052, our Parkville House has 51 guest rooms of various sizes, including three fully self-contained isolation suites and we have the following opportunities available:
Do you love gardening and can spare a few hours a fortnight? Help us to keep our communal facilities clean and tidy for families with a seriously ill child to enjoy.
Ronald McDonald House Parkville is on the hunt for a volunteer so if you like being out in the fresh air and pottering about outside we would love your help. The role will include general pruning, tidying and sweeping as well as planting and maintaining of garden beds and vegetable gardens. Mowing is not required and we provide all the tools and equipment.
No experience is necessary although some knowledge of weeds and plants is an advantage.
Do you enjoy creating a warm and welcoming environment and can spare a few hours a fortnight?
Having a clean and tidy home is important to our RMHC families. The role of the House Helper focuses on ensuring the communal areas such as kitchens, laundries, play rooms and lounge rooms are clean and tidy for families with a seriously ill child to enjoy.
Our House Helpers attend to the bedrooms by placing a welcome basket and gift and ensure the room is a welcoming place for our families to rest their heads after a busy day at the hospital. Volunteers are not required to clean the bathrooms, floors or make the beds.
We would ask for a regular commitment for a minimum of 6 months and one shift per fortnight. Each shift is between 2 and 4 hours and we need help 7 days a week.
If you have a few hours a fortnight to spare and you enjoy meeting people then we need your help to provide a warm welcome to families with a seriously ill child.
Our families come from across Victoria and Interstate and you will be the first person to help them navigate the check in process at RMHC Parkville. Assisting families with paperwork and providing a house tour ensures their stay with us starts smoothly. You may also help with answering the phone and general administrative requirements as needed within the House.
The ‘Meals from the Heart’ program is a wonderful initiative which provides our families with delicious and nutritious meals, a night off from dinner preparation and a fun corporate staff engagement program for the groups that come into the House.
The role of the Dinner Coordinator is to support the groups to ensure food is well prepared, served to families in a timely manner and the kitchen left tidy and clean for the following day.
Dinners are held on weeknights and weekends and are usually served at 6pm so we would ask for volunteers to be available from 5-5.30pm and 8pm.
