Education Assistant at Historic Stewart Farm

Step back in time and volunteer at Historic Stewart Farm in South Surrey.  As a person who loves children, you will enhance the delivery programs to classes who visit the heritage site on field trips.

No experience? No problem.  After training with staff, deliver a ready-made program which includes a tour of the site and hands on activities.  We also provide costumes so you look the part.

Our 90 minute school programs run throughout the school year so you get the summer off too!

If creating social connections and making a community impact is appealing to you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

Garden Volunteer at Historic Stewart Farm

Attention green thumbs!  A secret garden circa 1900 awaits at Historic Stewart Farm in South Surrey!  As a person who appreciates organic growing and seed preservation, you will help tend the heirloom gardens which have plants that Mrs. Stewart herself could have planted.

You have an interest in getting your hands dirty and seeing what your dirty work can create!

Garden volunteers are asked to commit 6-8 hours per month during gardening season, including one monthly Garden Bee session.

If tending a unique garden in one of the most beautiful settings in Surrey is appealing to you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

Ambassador Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Ambassador Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Want to be part of something BIG? MoS Ambassadors will roam the museum galleries making visitors feel welcome and supported.

What might that look like? You might start your shift handing out maps and asking people how they heard about the museum.  You might direct people to onsite demonstrations or fill them in about a cool upcoming event. Next you might answer a question about the dinosaur exhibit or do a brief survey. While you’re chatting, you will probably ask if the visitor has any suggestions about how we can make their experience even better!

Basically, MOS Ambassadors are the warm welcome to the museum. You’re available if visitors need you and are prepared to work with staff to see how we can improve the visitor experience. You enjoy conversation and smiling.  IF you can speak a second language, that is fabulous. If not, that’s okay too.

We would love to see your smiling face for four hours per month and are happy to train you so you can represent the museum with confidence.

If this describes you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

Junior Docent Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Junior Docent at Museum of Surrey

Want to be part of something BIG? The new Museum of Surrey is opening in Fall 2018 with youth opportunities that will brighten your resume and make you laugh all at the same time. Really, Junior Docent is a fancy term for hardworking youth who bring vibrancy to a number of museum needs.

What might that look like? On an event day, you might help with demonstrations or work in a team to assist with fun activities. On a quieter day, you might prepare craft material and chat with museum staff about ways to improve the visitor experience.  You may even help out with a program and get hands on with super cool artifacts.

If you are a 14+ organized youth, we would love to see your smiling face for a minimum of four hours per month. We will even provide training and leadership development so you can represent the museum with confidence.

If this describes you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

You must be at least 14 years of age for this position. Weekday and weekend opportunities exist for this position.

For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

House Ambassador at Historic Stewart Farm

But you don’t know all the local history? No problem! We will train you with key information and staff are always available to field more detailed questions. We also provide costumes so you look the part. How great is that?

You must be at least 14 years of age for this position. Weekday and weekend volunteer opportunities are available and we will work with your schedule.

If creating social connections and making a community impact is appealing to you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

Textiles Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Textile Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Love textiles?  Get woven up in the amazing Textile Centre at the new Museum of Surrey.  Help deliver hands-on programs and give demonstrations for visitors of all ages.

Do you know one textile but not them all? No problem. Anyone with a love of spinning, weaving, batik or any of the many dynamic textile arts is a suitable person for this role. Just bring your passion along with a smile for the public and you are set.

Textile volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of four hours per month at the museum but we always welcome more of your time!

If spending time with like-minded textile art people and sharing the magic of the trade with the public is of interest to you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461.

School Program Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Education Volunteer at Museum of Surrey

Want to be part of something BIG? School Program volunteers give class tours and deliver pre-written programs to elementary school-aged children.

What might that look like? Well, after setting up the space with museum staff, you will work from reading notes to create an ultra-memorable museum experience complete with real artifacts. You will witness the wonder on tiny faces and chuckle at their fresh observations. After, you will help tidy up the artifacts and chat with museum staff about what went well and how we can make school programs even better.

You don’t need to have teaching experience but a smile, patience and a sense of humour are mandatory. Like the children, you enjoy summer vacation so you’re only available during the school year. You’re comfortable taking a page out of their book to learn the programs… and then deliver them with confidence.

If this describes you, please fill out the application form. For more information, email heritagevolunteers@surrey.ca or call 604-502-6461
